Spanish Student Book with Music CD
The textbook is divided into 8 chapters, each of which contains 4-5 vocabulary themes. Each vocabulary theme is introduced with illustrations (mini- poster) and a song. Students can follow along by looking at the illustrated vocabulary page in the textbook, or by reading the lyrics. Each theme also includes a set of commonly used Q&A that relate to the vocabulary. A skit for roleplaying is presented at the end to reinforce the Q&A and vocabulary acquired throughout the chapter. A cultural point closes the chapter.
Pronunciation, simple grammar concepts, speaking in the present, past and future, or using the verb "to be" can be introduced to children only when using creative visuals and color-coding words that make it easy for children or even adults to easily understand with Risas y Sonrisas.
This is a 4 semester elementary Spanish course that is multi-media and multi-sensory. It includes songs on CD, an interactive CD, flashcards, picture cards, passports for vocabulary, games, skits, video, writing, maps, and even American Sign Language! The goal is to create a fun and relaxed atmosphere for kids to learn Spanish. The materials are colorful and can be used with multiple children, but each will need their own workbook. With so many components, it is important to have a clear teacher guide to follow. The homeschool instructor manual is only available in the program kit. It begins with an explanation of the format and how it appeals to the whole brain, accommodating various learning styles, and addresses multiple intelligences. Essential pronunciation and reading skills are introduced from the start. It then goes over the materials for the course: flashcard sets, reproducible blackline masters, songs, vocabulary, Q&A, readers theater (skits,) writing journal, assessment, helpful hints, games (primary and secondary,) the contents of the workbooks is outlined in 4 modules and then it goes into the lesson plans, which are quite detailed and specific. One workbook (module) per semester, meeting twice a week for one hour. Module 1: pronunciation, #1-10, colors, shapes, greetings, emotions, olympo y ana, body, directions, #11-100, and questions. Module 2: family, opposites, adjectives, #100 and up, wild animals, school, days of the week, months, seasons, weather and holidays. Module 3: verbs, personal pronouns, present/past/future tense, food, table settings, time, house, and building picture sentences. Module 4: places, ser, estar, occupations, tener, clothing, farm animals, and building picture sentences. Each module will take about 20 hours to cover. Activity workbooks are blank and white and consumable (may not be reproduced). These are for students in about grades 3-5; younger students can learn without having to write. The Student Book is the main book, a required item that includes a full color student lesson book with the interactive CD-ROM and the conversation skits DVD. So what is included in the Spanish Homeschool Program? Everything! The instructor manual, 1 year of online program access (which now holds the songs, games, skits, teacher administration tools and more), student book (no discs), the 4 workbooks, a cognates picture card set and folder, dominoes, Bingo Set and mini verb conjugation card set. Multiple parts means a fair amount of prep for the parent or teacher each lesson. As long as you keep the materials organized and follow the lesson plans, you will be good to go. Sticking to the plans of twice a week makes it doable, and it is a lot of fun and games with your Spanish and kids will love that! ~ Sara
