Product Description:

Even children with a short attention span can learn Bible stories. The 10 Minute Bible Journey offers 52 short stories from scripture, each accompanied by bright, colorful illustrations, Bible passages, and little interesting facts. Journey through the Bible from Creation to Christ's return, as you read the Biblical accounts in chronological order. Each story can be read in just a few minutes, and is followed up with where the story's biblical location, a key verse (NKJV unless noted), and a story summary. The illustrations will engage young learners and endnotes will help adults prepare to teach the lessons to their own children or in a small group. Included in the back of the book is a fold-out timeline that can be hung to help reinforce the sequence of events. 207 pgs, hc. ~ Donna

Anything with young earth perspective is gold
I am impressed with the colored illustrations, the nice layout.
It intentionally relates the Bible stories to the world we live in, highlighting the science of creation. I feel like anything with a young earth perspective is gold and appreciate their effort to connect the Bible stories together into a single connected storyline. This would be best for middle or high schoolers (or adults of course!).

Images and Directness were too much for my comfort level
#1 issue: The image of Adam and Eve shows quite a bit of detail. It made us uncomfortable giving the book to our son and daughter. Both Adam and Eve have been illustrated in a way that's just barely "ok". Both are drawn with quite a bit below the waistline showing... literally just above the genital area. Eve is very curvy and her hair doesn't cover the sides of her upper curve. Skipping ahead to Bathsheda in the pool bathing naked from the hips up, if David should have looked away, shouldn't we teach our children to look away and not draw attention to what David couldn’t look and walk away from? There is a way to depict the idea nakedness tastefully, this is not. In today's world with all the temptations and imagery around us a Christian company should have images that push the line. We teach our children to guard their hearts and eyes, yet the images in this Christian book don't help that.

#2 issue: I understand that Bible is quite graphic and that encouraging our kids to learn it is important.
However, I believe it should be done in an age appropriate and sensitive manner. There are a few stories in here that are quite direct regarding issues of a sexual matter "Sarai was so desirable”;
In the Sodom and Gomorrah story "demanded that he bring the two visitors outside so they could molest them" and "Lot offered the depraved horde his two virgin daughters instead- whom they rejected”;
"Rachel's marriage bed was corrupted by her own sister”;
the story of Potipher's wife "Come to bed with me!”;
Boaz to Ruth, "he desired her"; David "could have fulfilled his awakened passions with almost any of them" (concubines and wives) and Uriah the "soldier refused to enjoy his wife”;
"David's virgin daughter Tamar was raped by his son…” and the son "sexually assaulted ten of his father's concubine wives…”;
"Vashti refused to expose herself to the degrading party of drunken men”

There are ways to get across the gist of the story without being so direct.

I realize we all have different views of what is appropriate, but I wish I would have known the graphic language and edgy images before I purchased this for my elementary age kids.

As a side note, the other stories are excellently written.
