Product Description:

When studying our world and history, you really must examine its people. Subtitled, Cultures and Traditions, Ancestry and Identity, this hefty volume shares distinctives of 220 ethnic groups, including maps, statistical information, cultural and genetic characteristics, as well as stories and local proverbs. Ethnicities are grouped by migratory pattern on Earth (7 world divisions, and then further grouped by specific locale). You’ll learn the unique qualities and values of each. As you’d expect from the National Geographic Society, pages are laden with full-color pictures, maps, and data. “Deep Ancestry” profiles highlight a few participants in the Society’s Genographic Project. Backmatter provides genealogical study information (for those interested in pursuing traditional and DNA options), an explanation regarding the 12 Haplogroups, further resources, and index. 8”x 10”, 383 pgs, hc with dustjacket. ~ Ruth

Publisher Description:

From the heart of National Geographic comes this expansive guide to the clans, tribes, ethnicities, and peoples of the world. Organized in keeping with our knowledge of the migration of human groups through history, with statistics and a cultural portrait of each ethnic group, the book becomes a fascinating round-the-world tour of customs and traditions plus a go-to source for background information to round out one's own family history. From the Tuvans of Siberia to the Samoans and Tahitians of Polynesia, from the Mapuche of Chile to the Sami of Scandinavia, 222 of the world's 10,000-plus ethnic groupsare featured. Some were chosen because of their commonality as ancestors to many; others were chosen because their numbers are dwindling, and soon their cultures may become extinct. Maps, photographs, and traditional sayings enhance the accounts of many of the most important and interesting cultures in the world today.

I want to learn more about the diversity and teach my grandson. People are different looking as size, shape and color because of the location where they are born, it is nature, it is part of Biosphere.<br />What is important is not how you are looking as body size, shape and color what is important is how you conduct yourself in the life. Thanks
