Discussion Questions for American Studies Supplemental Reading Set Third Grade
Historical living books captivate children and inspire a life-long love of history through immersion learning. Take this love of history deeper by instituting a discussion time. Created as a supplement to the Memoria Press grade level packages, these discussion guides coordinate with the 3rd and 4th grade Modern American History Supplemental books. Books are selected with independent reading at grade level in mind. At the conclusion of the chapter or section, parents/teachers will ask 2-5 content-related questions from this book. Since this is designed as discussion resource, answers are found directly below the question. Users of other curricula may find the quality book lists and discussion questions versatile to introduce in their daily schedule. This resource is also valuable if you as parent are personally not able to read all the books but wish to encourage independent reading and be assured that your children understand their reading.
Many of the books that are included in these discussion questions we've picked up second hand, or checked out from the library. I have him read a chapter, or 20-30 minutes, then answer the questions in the book and/or explain the chapter to me. This little book is invaluable, as I know he's reading great historical content and I know he's understanding what he reads. Additionally, I don't have to invest much time in preparation. I simply pick it up, peruse the questions and answers quickly, and ask away. I'm hoping he has a love of history, and reading in general once he's all done with this series!
