The Get Set for School program is the high quality program you would expect from Handwriting Without Tears. This program was designed specifically for the preschool years, and uses the fun methods you would expect for that age. This program employs a unique, multisensory approach which prepares children to write. Children will play, build, sing, color and learn while developing important skills. Readiness & Writing Pre-K Teacher's Guide, now in its 8th edition, provides everything you need to understand the program and developmental stages to effectively teach the lessons. Topically, children learn the alphabet, letter and number recognition and formation, counting, shapes, colors and drawing. The writing focus is on uppercase letters, while lowercase letters are taught toward the end of the year (beginning in Week 30) using the My First Lowercase Book. Complete explanations are given on how to use the suggested manipulatives. Lessons are easy to use and there is a suggested 36 week schedule found in the front of the book. Crayon skills are developed while using special pages for scribbling and coloring. Strokes are practiced on "Mat Man" before ever making a letter. Capital letters and numbers are then practiced using a crayon. There are also extra activity pages which check readiness skills.

I Know My Numbers is a set of 10 small horizontal booklets (14 pgs ea), each centered on a number 1-10 that a student methodically works through as they practice writing and understanding these numbers. They are full of charming black and white illustrations and clear instruction. Little Chalk Bits is a good sized box (about 6.5"x 4"x 2) full of 1 pieces of thin (1cm) white chalk. This will go a long way! Little Sponge Cubes is a set of 100 (50 yellow/50 blue) small cubes (1cm) of kitchen sponge. Just right for tiny fingers to erase with!

This is a wonderful introduction to the world of handwriting for the preschool child. We offer several packages with both the most essential and also with recommended items for the program to fit your budget.

A follow up book to preschool is Kick Start Kindergarten, which reviews upper and lowercase letters, or the Kindergarten program, Letters and Numbers for Me.

We love these pencils for beginning readers. They are harder to use an incorrect pencil grip on and prevent the children from holding them too high.

My daughter has low muscle tone but is very smart. Not being able to write has frustrated her so much. These pencils have been the answer. She finds that she doesn't tire as easily and is learning how to legibly write. I'm so grateful that we found them!

I bought my 5 year olds fatter but long pencils and they have such a hard time picking them up then having to scoot down on the pencil with their fingers. These should be easy to pick up and hold for little hands!

Not a hit, but could be because he is use to a regular length puzzle already. Cute to tote in your purse though, or give it to a golfer.

worked great
We loved these. They do seem easier for my daughter than a full-length pencil. She even said so once without my prompting. With that said, there are other short pencils on the market that aren't necessarily labeled "for little hands." Golf pencils, for instance.
