Product Description:

If you can train yourself in the habit, keeping a nature journal offers not only the opportunity to continually hone artistic skills, but also provides ample opportunities to enjoy the outdoors, develop a deeper appreciation for nature, enhance penmanship and writing abilities and become a precious keepsake for years to come. This guide takes students lesson-by-lesson through developing their own nature journal and building the skills they'll need to capture examples of nature's beauty. Created by Barry Stebbing, author of the How Great Thou Art courses, these lessons are formatted similarly with short, easy-to-read lessons and a related assignment. There are 47 lessons total, the first segment focusing on assignments that can be done in the classroom, and later assignments which students will get to head outdoors to do. Lessons include designing the journal cover; learning how to appropriately frame the page; creating various tones in green and brown, and drawing specific objects or scenes such as onions, vines or tree trunks, landscapes, night scenes, farm animals, feathers, insects and much more. The lessons are illustrated with a variety of related drawings (both color and black-and-white) by Barry, some of which serve as examples to copy, and others to provide inspiration or examples for students' own drawing. The last piece of the book provides several blank journal pages with lines, a space for an inspiring quote and blank areas for drawing. You'll need a few specific supplies to complete the lessons, including a hardbound journal, a legal pad, a rubber band, colored pencils, a drawing pen, a writing pen, glue stick, tape, washable markers, a #6 watercolor brush (to use with the markers) and semi-gloss paper. Especially if you're not already emphasizing art in your curriculum, a course in nature journaling can provide your students a rewarding, creative tie-in to your science, English or even handwriting program and get them outdoors to enjoy that sunshine! I have been teaching my children for 25 years, and it's my turn to learn something, just for me! I love Barry Stebbing's "Lamb's Book of Art 1," which I used to teach all 6 of my children how to draw. My girls have gone on to win contests with their art, and all 3 are still avid artists. It all began with Barry Stebbing's book. So I'm trying his nature sketch book!

Can you please put up more pages. Pages to actually show you what the lessons look like so I can understand better what this actually is?
A shopper on Jan 23, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Yes, we will put up some additional sample pages. Thanks for bringing this to our attention.
Can you please provide one or two more photo's of the actual pages so I can see how much space a child has to draw? Thank you
A Stephens on Nov 7, 2015
BEST ANSWER: This book provides 127 pages of instruction on various aspects of nature journaling. These pages do not include space for the child to draw. At the end of the book there are 30 pages of blank paper provided for the child's nature journaling/drawing.

This book has given us direction in our endeavors to promote communication, observation, art & meditation in our daily routine.
I bought this as a tool to help direct myself and our 11 & 15 year old to observe & love nature. This book is EXACTLY what I had hoped. It includes assignments to work through, very few tools needed. I especially like that it has quotes on every page to inspire you. Also in the back it includes paper to practice your art journaling if you do not have a separate sketch book for it.

Music, painting, drawing, writing, sculpting, dancing... whatever, they help us handle daily problems. They give us another way of communicating. My oldest tends to not communicate well.We share our journals, our art attempts & observations together then encourage each other. I add direction & assignments (sometimes a vocabulary word, scripture, or whatever as a theme for the page) then send them outside armed with their journals & colored pencils. This book has helped give us direction in our endeavors to promote communication, observation, art & meditation in our daily routine.
