Product Description:

In this read-aloud approach to science, middle-grade students will discover basic biology, chemistry and physics concepts in an interactive and exciting way as they learn about the lives of famous scientists throughout history. Students will read biographies of famous scientists including Archimedes, Leonardo da Vinci, Galileo, Isaac Newton, Ben Franklin, Louis Pasteur, Thomas Edison, Marie Curie, Einstein (and more). They will also perform experiments, build a science portfolio, complete mapping exercises and learn new science vocabulary. The combination of biographical information and scientific discovery will really bring scientific concepts to life! Each lesson in the guide is in outline format, with specific reading assignments; a supply list for hands-on activities; recommended websites and more. Recently updated and now in full-color, this Beautiful Feet guide still utilizes many of the excellent resource books from the previous edition, with some new additions. Experiments are now taken from DK's Way Science Works, and supplies needed are listed in the lesson outline. Most supplies are household items, although a few specific items are required (suggested sources are provided in the front of the guide). A microscope is not required for the course, but there are microscope activities to complete if you do have access to one. This literature-based study will take one year to complete at a pacing of three lessons per week. Resource books and several of the suggested specialty supplies are listed below. Great for tactile learners and literature lovers.

We have really enjoyed Beautiful Feets Geography curriculum. It has been great for multiple grade levels! The layout is easy to follow. I like BF guides and I wanted to get the old, good one before RR switched to the new edition which uses books that I am not comfortable with.

I have wanted this for a long time, and since I was only $3.00 away from free shipping, I figured now was a good time to order it. This price, I believe, is also lower than the publisher's website. I love the Beautiful Feet study guides, and have wanted to use this one for my kids for years. I love that it is literature-based, and I expect that it will paint an in-depth picture of science, making it more meaningful.

What a wonderful way to study history and science combined with great literature! We got this unit study as a way to explore science through history I have a daughter who loves history and this was my way to draw her into the wonders of science while putting a name face and story to the scientists She loved it! She loved learning about the people and cultures as well as their scientific discoveries We completed the unit as a family with the youngest in kindergarten up to grade 5 and a few in between This curriculum lends itself to all ages since each child can explore the information in their own way The older children tended to go beyond the curriculum and delve further on their own It was great to see them learn about the people behind the discoveries putting a "real person" behind the science While studying Archimedes my daughter who hates math was fascinated by this man She learned how math played such an important role in Archimedes' life and his work she saw math in a different light When we finished our reading on this man my daughter turned to me and said "Mom maybe math isn't so bad" Yeah!!!! Even though this curriculum promotes history and science my daughter made a math discovery of her own thanks to this curriculum!
