Cursive Practice Sheets II
These sheets can be used for extra handwriting
practice after completing New American Cursive 1 or another similar
cursive program. This extra reinforcement will set students up for success when
entering New American Cursive 2. One page of practice is dedicated to
each letter followed by a page of short words or sentences. Students trace
letters and words then practice without tracing. Lines are 3/8” with a dotted
mid-line. 57 pgs. Non-reproducible.
Our Cursive Practice Sheets include pages for practicing each cursive letter, Scripture copy work, and blank practice sheets. Book Two is extra practice for NAC 2. Since the most important objective of the NAC program is mastery, the more your student is able to practice, the better!
Handwriting with a bit of a different approach will teach your child cursive skills beginning in first grade. There are fewer strokes, a natural right slant, and the strokes are simplified. The philosophy is that students have the motor skills to write cursive at the first grade level, and when we wait to teach them at about third grade, they literally go back to the speed of first grade writing as they transition from print to cursive.
Each book includes a 7-page teaching guide, followed by instruction and exercises, illustrations and practice sheets with quotes and Bible verses (a secular version of Book II uses quotes from famous Americans in lieu of Bible verses). Book II and III also include handwriting evaluations, review of paper placement and pencil position, review of letter and number formations, and progress reports and test pages. The books have an uncluttered, visual appeal with uncramped space to practice. Since the books are intended for elementary grades, the spacing is very important.
'Mr. Meerkat' guides your child through each book as he shows the way to draw each letter and encourages creativity. Before the 1940s, children were taught cursive in the first grade. This course provides the opportunity to use this simple technique to bring back the art of handwriting. - Donna
This resource provides detailed practice for students learning New American Cursive who need additional practice. The Cursive Practice Sheets books correspond to the New American Cursive Program levels. Books I and II feature lines with dotted middles (1/2" in Book I and 3/8" in Book II). Book III is wide-ruled (single lines about 3/8"). All three books start with all letters – upper and lowercase. Letters are practiced singly and then in multiples (i.e. Mmmm, Fffff) and finally used in words. In the first two books, the letters and words have starting points and dotted samples which allows the student to trace the letters and build muscle memory. Book III continues to have starting points for letter practice with upper and lowercase letters at the beginning of each practice sheet, followed by words.
