Fifth in the A Child’s Geography series, this volume continues the study of the medieval era known as the “dark ages”, focusing on the Viking realms and the modern-day countries of Northern Europe. The territories you will explore on this venture include Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Finland, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland, Ireland, and Iceland. This course can be read straight through as a stand-alone book as it includes plenty of optional activities to pick and choose from including timelines, map work, hands-on activities, reading suggestions, and more. These can be found on the publisher’s website as a special download. Complete the course in one year (completing one chapter every two weeks) or over one semester (completing one chapter a week). The colorful photos throughout along with the engaging writing style of the author will keep you enthralled in the country of the day. The bold type vocabulary words are defined in the glossary in the back of the book. At the end of each chapter are a few questions and a few book recommendations if you would like to further explore the subject or territory. There are links throughout the text as well that go into more detail about different topics. You will certainly be captivated as you read and learn more about the geography, history, and culture of Northern Europe in this well-done series!

Category Description for A Child's Geography (Masterbooks):
Written in the conversational style of Hillyer's Child's Geography of the World, this introductory geography study incorporates engaging text and a variety of activities to bring geography alive. Geography of the earth is approached as if you and your children were taking a journey through and around the earth, learning everything about the Earth as a whole, as well as the individual continents and countries as you journey through each volume. This series is currently being updated by Master Books, so please contact us to verify the in-stock editions. If you are familiar with the previous edition, you will notice that much of the readings are the same. Visually and organizationally, there are notable differences in the Master Book editions from the introductory information and recommended 3-day per week schedule, updated graphics, and reproducible (for your family) worksheets. As someone who used the first editions of these volumes, I greatly appreciate Master Book’s efforts to make them more user-friendly, as well as to add more vibrant illustrations to engage learners (and parents!) A Child's Geography is our favorite part of our home school! We began last year with the Medieval book, and would like to continue through all of them in the next several years. They are super fun, memorable, and incorporate lots of options without dealing out guilt when you skip fun activities.
