How to Draw Horses (Creative Haven)
With easy-to-follow steps and realistic coloring suggestions on the inside covers, this outstanding guide will show you how to draw 15 different breeds of horses: Appaloosa, Clydesdale, Morgan, Palomin, and more. Plus, there are completed illustrations of each animal to color or trace as well as 30 practice pages, perforated for easy removal from the book. Specially designed for experienced colorists, Horses Draw and Color and other Creative Haven® coloring books offer an escape to a world of inspiration and artistic fulfillment.
Part coloring pages, part drawing instruction, each book has 15 coloring designs. Next to each coloring page is a 4-part lesson on how to draw that image from scratch starting with very basic shapes. Blank white pages with border designs give you a place to do your drawings. If you are coloring the pages, then you will appreciate having small color versions on the inside front & back covers to guide your color choices (not that you have to follow them, of course!). I love the perforated pages. They are perfect for sharing & displaying your art! I also like that these look a little "older" than some other coloring books. The coloring pages have one item on them (one dog, one flower cluster, etc.) and are not too full or busy. That means you can color in the background however you want or leave it white to showcase your coloring skills. By Dover. 96pp, pb. ~ Sara
The format is 4 illustrations for each drawing starting with basic shapes and adding new detail shown in blue ink for each new step. (see the front cover illustrations) The finished drawing is clearly outlined without shading so could easily be traced.
There isn't any shading, just the outline, but the horses are nicely done and shown from a variety of perspectives, not just a side view. There are 16 horse pictures. On the back cover 7 of the horses are shown in color and identified by breed. Most of another horse is shown in color on the front cover.
The book is quite thick but 29 pages are blank for drawing. Each of these pages are framed with one of four different border design which could be colored. These pages aren't really helpful unless you cut the pages out to use them. It would be very awkward to try to use the drawing instructions and flip back and forth to the blank page. You need to be looking at the instructions as you draw.
