Product Description:

Part of Master Books' Wonders of Creation series, this book is more historical in nature than the other titles, which focus more on science. For the first time ever in this series, they have written a book with information tailored to three age groups: 5th-6th grade, 7th-8th grade, and 9th-11th grades. Text geared for each age group is printed on a differently-colored background, with the most basic information (who, what, where, why and how) written to younger readers, and the most complex information (theories, controversies) geared for older readers. Eleven chapters discuss what archaeology is, and then look at archaeology investigations at a number of different ancient Middle Eastern sites, including Egypt, the land of the Hittites, Ur of the Chaldees, Assyria, Babylon, Persia, Petra, the land of the Phoenicians, the Dead Sea Scrolls, and Israel. An overview of the history of locations or cultures is provided in each chapter, along with exciting details on recent discoveries and narratives from the Bible that correlate with the history of a place or related ruler. Maps, full-color photos and notes from the author add further interest. Although the differently-colored blocks of text aren't too hard to get used to as an older reader, younger readers that have an interest in archaeology may browse other sections, and will certainly be interested in perusing the full-color photographs of sites and artifacts. A separate 36-page study guide includes vocabulary, short answer questions, and hands-on activities for each chapter. This is available as a free download at A wonderful supplement to any study of ancient history, and a great resource for Christian students interested in the field of archaeology. 96 pgs, hc. Jess

I love archaeology I find it interesting and captivating It tells us more about the past and how people lived then I like it so much that when the Archaeological Bible came out a couple of years ago I had to have it Nothing is more interesting to me that discovering the links between the Bible and the past Regardless when I received this book I didnt know what to expect and I was surprised by the quality of the bookThe book is divided in three levels of reading Level one is the yellow sections and is perfect for grades 5 and 6 students Honestly I think my oldest son who will be in grade 4 next year is able to read and understand this level Level two is composed of all the gray areas in the book and is specifically for students in grades 7 or 8 Finally level three which requires more reading from the students of grades 9 to 11 is the white sections in the bookThe author is presenting archaeology and the biblical discoveries from simple terms to more complicated terms depending of the age group of the reader You will travel to the land of Egypt discover the Hittites uncover Ur of the Chaldees Assyria and Babylon travel to Persia and Petra get to know the Phoenicians unravel the Dead Sea scrolls and finally explore Israel You will read about the beginning of the alphabet the origin of paper the cedars of Babylon Queen Esther evidence of the global flood and much more This book is packed with information about the past and history It is a great addition to your homeschool library! The text is very informative and helps the reader to picture life during biblical times The pictures that are included in this book are absolutely stunning Sometimes you will have pictures of discoveries made but you will also have marvelous pictures of Petra which caught the interest of my 8 year old son When he realized that everything was made in the rocks he was impressed What I particularly like is that the book will become one that we can grow into Nothing can stop us from using this book one year; putting it aside for a year or so and then taking it out again and discovering once again the world of archaeology but with more details this time This can be done at least three times for each student Having four kids in my family you can imagine how long this book will be used *grin* I like the idea of having multiple ages/grades that can use the same book And this book can easily be used with any history curriculum that covers the biblical events I am planning to use it with our Mystery of History lessons
