Category Description for Math Power Basics (Gr. 6-12):

A basic skills curriculum dedicated to total concept mastery and designed for students having difficulty with traditional courses. Lessons are self-instructional and fairly lengthy, roughly 10 student pages per lesson. Instruction is clear (written at a fourth grade reading level), doesn't assume prior knowledge, and explanations tend to be more procedural than conceptual. Student pages include instruction, drill, practice problems, and word problems. Activities develop problem-solving skills and usually involve "real" world applications, such as planning a party, comparison shopping, and balancing a budget.

Category Description for PROGRAMS - OTHER:

While offering some instruction, these programs include less teaching material or do not cover the full range of grade-level skills that the comprehensive programs offer.

I like how it is simply presented and covers all of the need to know concepts. My daughter is dyslexic and this has been recommended as a good fit for dyslexics / dyscalculics.

Power Basic is just what the name implies. It gives the basic information that students need to learn in a condensed format. We have already used the following Power Basic Books: Biology, Earth Science, American Government, and World History. My son loves the format and style of the books: straightforward and to the point. It gives him a feeling of accomplishment to complete his work from a Power Basic book and finish the course successfully.

My kids are on the autism spectrum and needed a break from the complicated saxon math we were doing. A little catch up is needed. This fits the bill.

This seems to be a slower paced Algebra course with more review and practice than the current curriculum I am using.

Would this set be considered Algebra 1? And would it be considered one credit of high school math?
A shopper on Feb 14, 2020
BEST ANSWER: The Power Basics series is a series designed for "alternate populations," that is, students who have a difficult time with traditional textbooks. Accordingly, while they cover the same general subjects covered by high school students, the courses are written at a 4th/5th grade reading level, include much shorter reading sections and more activity-based work (i.e. worksheets), and are far less rigorous. They could be considered a high school credit for some students. However, many states will not accept texts written at that level as typical high school credits for typical students.
What grade is this set for?

BEST ANSWER: Website (publisher) says 6-12; Algebra is traditionally taught in grades 8-10.

Love it
I am very thankful that they recommended this to me. My daughter had a hard time with pre algebra last year. This has turned things around! Love how it explains everything so simple.

Finally!
Algebra made easy! This book is perfect for anyone who struggles with algebra, needs to brush up on algebra, or wants to know the basics. This is the third curriculum I have purchased and the only one I would recommend for people who are not naturally math inclined.
