Publisher Description:

Four titles from the best-selling Wonders of Creation Series are combined for a full year of study. The focus of the course delves into oceans, astronomy, weather, and mineral, all helping the student form a solid, biblical worldview. Combined with the teacher guide, you will have a detailed calendar for each week of study, reproducible worksheets, quizzes and tests, and answers keys to help grade all assignments.

Course Description

This is the suggested course sequence that allows two core areas of science to be studied per semester. You can change the sequence of the semesters per the needs or interests of your student; materials within each semester are independent of one another to allow flexibility.

Quarter 1: Ocean

The oceans may well be Earth's final frontier. These dark and sometimes mysterious waters cover 71 percent of the surface area of the globe and have yet to be fully explored. Under the waves, a watery world of frail splendor, foreboding creatures, vast mountains, and sights beyond imagination awaits. Now this powerful resource has been developed for three educational levels! Learning about the oceans and their hidden worlds can be exciting and rewarding " the abundance and diversity of life, the wealth of resources, the latest discoveries, and the simple mysteries that have intrigued explorers and scientists for centuries. A better understanding of our oceans ensures careful stewardship of their grandeur and beauty for future generations, and leads to a deeper respect for the delicate balance of life on that God created on planet Earth.

Quarter 2: Astronomy

The universe is an amazing declaration of the glory and power of God! Beautiful and breathtaking in its scale, the vast expanse of the universe is one that we struggle to study, understand, or even comprehend in terms of its purpose and size. Now take an incredible look at the mysteries and marvels of space in The New Astronomy Book! If you watch the stars at night, you will see how they change. This speaks to the enormity and intricacy of design in the universe. While the stars appear timeless, they instead reflect an all - powerful Creator who speaks of them in the Bible. Many ancient pagan cultures taught that the changing stars caused the seasons to change, but unlike these pagan teachings, the Book of Job gives credit to God for both changing stars and seasons (Job 38:31-33). When Job looked at Orion, he saw about what we see today, even though he may have lived as much as 4,000 years ago.

Quarter 3: Weather

From the practical to the pretty amazing, this book gives essential details into understanding what weather is, how it works, and how other forces that impact on it. Learn why storm chasers and hurricane hunters do what they do and how they are helping to solve storm connected mysteries. Discover what makes winter storms both beautiful and deadly, as well as what is behind weather phenomena like St. Elmo's Fire. Find important information on climate history and answers to the modern questions of supposed climate change. Get safety tips for preventing dangerous weather related injuries like those from lightning strikes, uncover why thunderstorms form, as well as what we know about the mechanics of a tornado and other extreme weather examples like flash floods, hurricanes and more. A fresh and compelling look at wild and awesome examples of weather in this revised and updated book in the Wonders of Creation series!

Quarter 4: Mineral

Minerals are a gift of God's grace. Every day we touch them, seeing the diamond in an engagement ring or a copper chain with a cross on it. Minerals are touched on in video games like Minecraft® and Mineral ValleyTM, making them more a part of our daily experience. Salt, one vital mineral, helps maintain the fluid in our blood cells and is used to transmit information in our nerves and muscles. Also, Jesus told his followers that we are the salt of the earth (Matthew 5:13), something thus needed for health and flavor. Here is a God-honoring book that reveals the first mention of minerals in the Bible, symbolic usages, their current values in culture and society, and their mention in heaven.

Category Description for Wonders of Creation PLPs (Gr. 7-9+):

These Teacher Guides are all designed to accompany the Wonders of Creation series, transforming them into one year science courses to be used at the junior and senior high levels. Each booklet includes a weekly lesson schedule (totaling a one-year study) with a chart that also provides space for due dates and grades. Worksheets are included for each chapter in the books and are reproducible for family use. Quizzes and tests are also included along with answer keys. Packages include all resources and Teacher Guide.

Master Books has such incredible science resources, but families choosing to use these books have historically either devised their own teacher material or used the publishers' free study guide if one was available. No more! They have now published Parent Lesson Planners (or "PLPs") for many of their resources including: Investigate the Possibilities Science, John Hudson Tiner's Exploring the History Of... series, Wonders of Creation series, and other stand-alone titles. These provide parents the framework and structure to use their resources for course credit. While the format varies a bit by PLP, most include a weekly lesson schedule (with 180 total lessons), student worksheets, quizzes, tests, and an answer key. Lesson schedules also include space to record dates and grades. For most courses, lessons will take approximately 30-45 minutes. Labs are occasionally recommended in the beginning of a PLP, but they are optional, not scheduled in. PLPs are reproducible for family or small group use (ten or less). These planners do a great job of turning their resources into a complete curriculum. Science PLPs are listed below with the resources they are designed to be used with. Packages made with the resources and PLP are also available. Please see more extensive information on our website. - Donna

Are there experiments? Activities?
Anita on Jul 21, 2019
BEST ANSWER: There were no experiments that I can recall. It's been a couple years since my son used this. He maybe did a third of the curriculum if that. It seems as so there were some project type activities suggested. I'm sorry I can't be more definite but it's been awhile since he used it. The reason he didn't continue with this curriculum was he was having a terrible time with the questions. The answer key was frustrating him, or he couldn't figure out what they were wanting for an answer. It's hard to remember, & he's not here for me to ask.

Happy with it
I got this for my 7th grader. I have always combined my kids for science...but got this for her ...as a course to be done independently. It’s jr high...so I’m expecting her to follow a syllabus and learn to study. She uses a computer dictionary to hear unfamiliar pronounced (her idea to do that) and has asked me a few questions when doing the assignments. I then showed her how to go back and find the answers...she is learning the study skills I was hoping would come from this. The material is a “reasonable amount of daily work” and interesting. I am planning on all of my kids using this for 7th grade.

Difficult to follow
I am reluctant to write reviews, but I wish I would have had someone write one for this particular curriculum prior to my purchase. I have been teaching this curriculum with my 7th grade daughter for two weeks, and I am ready to abandon it completely. There are no experiments or activities, although the teacher's manual says that science labs and kits are available via the company's website. I contacted the company, and they confirmed that there are none. I have found the material to be choppy and difficult to follow. Many unfamiliar terms are introduced within the text with no definition given, only to be defined in a later section, or left for the student to find elsewhere. I have spent hours trying to find corresponding experiments and material to "liven up" the text. It may prove to be a supplemental resource, but I would not recommend it as your primary science curriculum. I have been home schooling our two children for six years, and this is our most disappointing science curriculum.I would have returned it, but I had already begun highlighting material.
