Question: Teaching Your Children the Essentials of Classical Education
Middle School students should be encouraged to approach the world with curiosity. Leigh Bortins (and the organization she founded, Classical Conversations) teaches parents how to ask curiosity-sparking questions. With a goal of parent-student discussion and strengthening the mentoring relationship between them, Bortins goes carefully subject-by-subject outlining its dialectical (official classical name for this learning stage) approach. Along the way she makes a strong case for classical education. Helpful appendices provide lists of possible questions as well as resources. 223 pgs, pb. ~ Janice

Classical Conversations™ is an international organization with local communities and memberships, weaving a classical educational methodology with a Christian worldview. Their well-organized PK-12 scope and sequence is divided into three Cycles with three basic age/grade focus levels (Foundations, Essentials, and Challenge) each covering the same historical/geographical periods in any given year. While not their main instructional materials (Guides), we carry these reference, review, and reinforcement products that can be used by those in Classical Conversations™ as well as anyone who wants a useful tool in a particular subject.
