Publisher Description:

Format: CD-ROM Prerequisite: Algebra 1.Compatibility: All Mac OS and Windows XP or higher. Required: Saxon Algebra 2 2nd or 3rd Ed Home Study Kit with Solutions Manual. High School Credit: 1 Algebra 2 credit and 1/2 Geometry credit (remaining 1/2 Geometry Credit is earned in Advanced Math). Includes Free CLEP Professor for College Algebra.

This CD can be used with BOTH the 2nd and 3rd edition of Saxon Algebra 2. The only diffference between these editions is that the 3rd edition has the lesson reference printed in parentheses next to every question in the problem set (homework). For those who want to use the 2nd edition, Dr. Shormann has created a Lesson Reference Chart and posted it on the Syllabi page. The lesson reference indicates which lesson the question was originally taught in so the student can quickly and easily re-learn the missed concept by watching the corresponding lesson on the DIVE CD.

  • *Optional: TI-83 or TI-84 Graphing Calculator

*Only used in a few lessons at the end of the course. However, the student can watch the DIVE lecture to learn the concept without using a graphing calculator.

Dr. Shormann teaches every lesson step by step on a digital blackboard that looks and sounds like a real classroom. The only difference is, you can easily pause, rewind and fast-forward the lecture; learning at your own pace. With degrees in aerospace engineering and science, Dr. Shormann has over 15 years experience teaching all levels of Saxon Math. His unique experience enables him to understand how all the lessons in a book fit together as well as how the curriculum builds all the way through Calculus and Physics.

Teaching three to five practice problems in each lesson, Dr. Shormann reviews previously learned concepts and connects each "bite-sized" concept to the next. This makes complex concepts easier to grasp while showing students the big picture. During the lecture, students work interactively by taking notes and working the practice problems with him. They are encouraged to pause, rewind, and fast-forward until they fully understand the new concept.

Connecting Scripture with math and science, he teaches math as the God-given language of science,a tool for understanding God's creation and the purpose and pattern evident in Creation. The history of mathematics is also discussed which shows the tremendous Christian heritage of mathematics and science, and how all mathematics resulted from a study of His creation. It doesn't take long to discuss, but it is important to remind all students that God is the Author and Creator of all knowledge, including mathematics. Consider this: in our world, there exists a huge collection of facts, all subject to interpretation. Who do you want to interpret those facts for your child, a Christian or a non-Christian?

After the lecture, students complete homework problems in the Saxon textbook. Each homework set provides continual review of previously learned concepts. Research has shown this method superior for increasing long term retention and recall time but it can be a problem for students who need to re-learn forgotten concepts. With DIVE, the student simply re-watches the corresponding DIVE lecture which is printed in parentheses next to each question. Better than giving them the answer, the student relearns the forgotten concept and immediately applies it to the problem; significantly increasing retention.

Category Description for 3rd Ed (with Integrated Geometry):

The completion of algebra. Covers uniform motion, chemistry-related problems, simultaneous equations with 2 and 3 variables, non-linear equations, geometry, right-triangle trigonometry, conversion from rectangular to polar coordinates, addition of vectors, complex numbers, quadratic formulas. Revised in 2006, this version includes Lesson Reference Numbers for all problem sets and tests, which refer the student back to the lesson the concept was presented in, so they can go back and review when they come to a difficult problem. This edition also features complete solutions for test questions (located in the test packet), improved graphics, and a revised glossary and index. 3rd edition.

Category Description for Saxon High School Programs:

Homeschool Kits contain a non-consumable hardcover student text, an answer key to problem sets and tests, and a test booklet. Solution manuals are NOT included unless you purchase a Homeschool Kit with Solutions Manual. For each problem, these manuals take you step-by-step to the solution. A big help if higher level math isn't your strong suit. All books are the most current edition. Please note that Homeschool Kit contents for Geometry and 4th Editions of Algebra 1 and Algebra 2 are different and do include a solution manual.

Category Description for Saxon Math:

Students like Saxon because they feel successful in math instead of overwhelmed.

The most popular homeschooling math program hands down! Highly recommended by both Mary Pride and Cathy Duffy, Saxon Math also wins our award for the "Most Requested Text." Saxon math is a "user-friendly" math program - even for Algebra, Trigonometry, Calculus and other usually difficult math topics. Learning is incremental and each new concept is continuously reviewed, so the learning has time to "sink in" instead of being forgotten when the next topic is presented. Higher scores on standardized tests and increased enrollments in upper-level math and science classes have resulted where Saxon has been used in public schools. Students like Saxon because they feel successful in math instead of overwhelmed. Because of the format, children are able to work more independently.

To help my daughter understand the advanced math better than how I can explain.

We were interested in having a lesson taught, both in an interesting fashion, and from a Christian perspective. We appreciate the email support, if needed. We have used DIVE CD's in the past.

used the dive cd for algebra 1 and it was extremely helpful.

My son used algebra 1 dive and we were pleased with the teaching. Short lessons with clear spoken and dry erase examples.
AMY M on Sep 5, 2018
Because that is the math I use and I already have the student material
Becky H on Jul 30, 2018
We are now doing Saxon Algebra 1 and I feel like my daughter needs some better explanation than I might be equipped to give next year in Algebra 2.
PATRICIA L. on May 2, 2018
As this course will be self-taught, it is important to have visual demonstrations of the lessons as they are studied.

I find that Saxon Algebra II becomes more difficult and instructions are vague by about the middle of the book. This sounds like it will help my current student and I to press on and finish the course!
V K R on Sep 15, 2017
Our middle used D.I.V.E. in coordination with Saxon books to teach herself and as per her request, we are ordering the next in the series. They must work. Her work has been excellent. My husband has had very little to go over with her.

Have used DIVE CD-ROMs with Saxon math since fourth or fifth grade. Great explanations of all the material by a strong teacher who does interject his Christian worldview where appropriate. He speaks at a great pace and does examples on a virtual chalkboard which is wonderful! At higher levels of math, I (Mom) watch along with the kids to refresh my memory.
Paula J on Jul 31, 2017
I read that it's super helpful to have this at this advanced level...feel like my son and I need more than the textbook at this point.
Shannon C on Jun 28, 2017
This CD provides excellent instruction on each lesson of Saxon Algebra 2. A life-saver for homeschoolers.
Anne H on Mar 6, 2017
Came highly recommended. My student is struggling and I thought this might help.
Amy K on Feb 17, 2017
This CD has helped by saving me instruction time, reinforcing my instruction, exposing my children to a more typical lecture format, and giving them extra examples beyond what is given in the book.
Laura C on Feb 3, 2017
Saxon is our math curriculum of choice.

My old Dive CD wore out. This is my third child to go through Saxon Alg 2

We have used the D.I.V.E CD-ROM with the Saxon Geometry curriculum and my child thought the lessons were well explained. Therefore, we decided to continue the use of the added lectures through the CDs..
Alexandra R on Sep 14, 2016
For myself as the home school parent it makes the instruction so much easier. Also my child can watch and rewatch the lesson video for mastery.
Jennifer P on Aug 18, 2016
My daughter is starting to need more help with Algebra 2 than I can give her at this point, so I thought an outside tutorial would be an effective way for her to get the explanations she needs.
Nancy D on Apr 19, 2016
These DVD's for Saxon Math support are great! Easy for the student (and parent) to follow along for each lesson. DVD examples are different than the ones giving in the lesson text (providing additional examples of lesson concepts). DVD's run through math concepts using layman's terms.

D.I.V.E. Algebra 2
May 10th grade student is using this CD-ROM to get through her Algebra 2 homeschooling. She loves the teaching and it allows her to read through the new concept each day. She says it makes it clear and easy to understand. I'm grading her tests and she is getting it!

Be aware
These cd's are as described - with good instruction and helpful to the student. However, please be aware that you can't just put them in the computer and go. You will have to download a media player and follow specific instructions for use. Maybe I am a bit computer illiterate, but it took me a total of an hour or so on the phone with Rainbow and Saxon getting all of this figured out for my pc and laptop.

So helpful!
These DVDs are so helpful. They benefit my sons by giving them oral instruction, with visual aids, like a lecture. But, I don't have to take the time to do it myself. We use them on a PC, or a Mac. We had to do more set-up on the Mac because of the parental controls we have, but once that was done, it has been easy for them to use.

I appreciated the DIVE CD'S a great deal once my kids got older When they hit Algebra 2 I couldn't remember the math concepts for the life of me so it was nice to have the CD to fall back on With my kids being just 13 months apart I was able to use it with all of my kids as they did some things back to back making it well worth the money Though it was reasonably priced to start with It is compatible with more than one computer system making it available for more people to use Great Product!
