The story of Misty helped fan flames of reading interest for me as a child, and I'm purchasing this set to do the same for my daughter's friend. Now she can continue the adventure after the book is read with some Breyer models of her own.

Horse models are beautiful. Story is a bit difficult to decipher for young readers.
This is a sweet story of a brother and sister's determination to buy a pony. However, unless the reader is familiar with the tradition of the pony penning, it may be difficult to envision this event. Also the language is spoken in the jargon of the islanders on Chincoteague; for example wickie,(harness) or to gentle (tame) a horse. Once the reader can connect the dots, it's enjoyable. I would recommend this book for upper elementary level. The horse models are beautiful.

Great gift for my niece!
I bought this as a Christmas gift for my niece. She loves anything and everything about horses and ponies so this set was perfect; Misty and her foal were beautiful and she enjoyed reading about Misty herself. Now I have to get her the story about her foal Stormy:)
