Category Description for Pentime Handwriting Series:

This program is designed to teach children handwriting with a minimum of assistance. Eight black and white workbooks help students master the skill of manuscript writing, transition into cursive, and continue to build cursive skills using smaller and smaller lines. In the first workbook, students focus on writing the individual letters on wide lines with a dotted midline. The correct strokes are shown (and numbered) for each letter along with plenty of space for children to practice. The second book continues practice of upper and lowercase letters but adds words and sentences as well. In place of stroke guides, a dot on each letter shows children where to start forming the letter. The third book (Transition) reviews manuscript for 35 pages and then jumps into cursive handwriting for the remaining 60 pages of the book, where students learn the strokes for individual cursive letters and practice connecting them. The rest of the series allows children to fully master cursive writing as they continually practice by writing the letters and copying longer and longer paragraphs on increasingly smaller lines (rulings gradually decrease from 1/2" in Grade 3 to 5/16" in Grade 8). Paragraphs range from fun sentences to Bible verses (close to the ASV version) to excerpts from essays on nature. Captions in the older grades provide interesting facts, and pretty border sheets to color are scattered throughout. - Steph

Traditional handwriting book with all the loops on the capitals, not the watered-down, simplified "modern" version that most cursive books now teach. The old style is much prettier. This is the original Zaner-Bloser cursive taught in the 1960's-80's in most schools, and which is still taught in Amish schools today.

Used Pentime last year with great success. This was the simple but meaningful and effective practice I'd been looking for. I assigned roughly two pages per week and they were the perfect amount of practice for my kiddos. Their cursive improved dramatically and they liked the themed books that shared neat facts about animals. The poetry selections were lovely as well. Highly recommend!

I really like the Pentime writing curriculum. Starting from the first book and onwards the workbooks contain character building text, instill good life habits, informative geographical information and nature facts. I think the program is uplifting and inspiring for our kiddos.

Once my boys had a solid foundation of cursive from A Reason For Handwriting, I switched to this. They did not prefer to color any longer, such as required in A Reason for Handwriting. This is a simple, straight forward book that really cements curvsive in their minds and makes them fluent.

BEST ANSWER: There are 71 pages. You will NOT go wrong buying this book! I have loved PenTime for years. It presents a beautiful cursive style, the pictures are enjoyable for the kids to color, and the topics explained as the kids practice writing are educational and interesting. You won’t find anything better for the price.

Super products!
We have many transfer students that have never done cursive and this gives them a fun and interesting way to learn it at their own level. The poems have also been a source of stage presentation material for some. THANK YOU!
