Description

From the Antediluvian Basilisk that is large but shy to the Yellow-Bellied Lung Dragon that is aggressive, of medium size but harmless, meet the Dragons of Wyrmspan and enter their Crimson, Golden & Amethyst Caves for a beautiful adventure of fantasy that unfolds before you.  Get ready for a unique, rich game experience in which players collect unique dragon cards, excavate caves, entice dragons into them and then explore them to collect resources, eggs, cards, and victory points.

There are three main boards and individual player boards, which functions as follows:

  1. Round Tracker Board:  Four areas represent one round of the game each with an objective goal for each round that awards game-end points.
  2. Card Display Board:  Two types of cards appear face up on this board with the draw piles nearby.  Displayed on this board are three of the Cave Cards and Dragon Cards that players use on their boards.
  3. Dragon Guild Board: This board is a source of rewards earned during the game and possible game-end points.  Players have opportunities to move around this board during some of their turns.
  4. Player Boards:  What an environment for these beautiful dragons!  This is where they will live in the Crimson Cavern, the Golden Grotto and the Amethyst Abyss where you place them. The first space in each of these caves is already excavated and ready to be populated.  After that, you will place cave cards in the last three columns to prepare homes for more dragons.

During four rounds, players have a choice of three basic actions.  In each round, players take turns until they run out of coins, or they all choose to pass and save coins for the following round.  The action choices during the round are:

  1. Excavate - Selecting one of the three caves; place a cave card in the leftmost empty space.  Placing a card costs one coin and if placing in the third or fourth column an egg or two eggs will be required.  Then, activate the cave card and gain the resources, or action reward indicated.  Some of these cards require a trade such as paying eggs to gain resources.
  2. Entice - Choose a dragon card from your hand to place in an excavated cave space on your player mat.  The dragon must be played into a cave that matches its habitat as shown on the card.  The base payment is one coin followed by the required resources, (milk, meat, gold or Amethyst) coins or eggs required by that dragon.  Then, if there are instant rewards, gain those benefits.  All dragons have an ability or benefit and may provide in game, end of round or end game abilities or points.  The in-game rewards are collected during an explore action during the game.
  3. Explore - Choose one of the three caves to explore.  The Crimson Cavern provides resources, The Golden Grotto lets you draw or choose Dragon Cards to your hand and the Amethyst Abyss offers Cave Card drawing or selection.  Once you have played two Dragon Cards in a cave, there will be two each of their base resource collection spots available.  There is also an opportunity to move your player maker on the Dragon Guild board for further rewards.  Some dragon cards also have reward activations during exploration.

At the end of four rounds of play, scoring begins with points on Dragon cards and for any that have end game scoring.   Round-end objectives, dragon guild points, unused coins, eggs, tucked cards, cached resources and leftover resource credits are added.  The person with the most points wins!  There is a beautiful, illustrated Dragon Facts booklet included as well as a solo mode.  For 1-5 players with a 90-minute game time.
