Will you develop the most successful aviary, by attracting and collecting the most birds, eggs, and food? The game components in this strategic game are beautiful: 170 different illustrated bird cards, miniature eggs in a variety of colors, a birdfeeder dice tower, and large playing mats. Players compete to develop their aviaries, and as they play bird cards, each starts a chain reaction of effects in your habitat. The winner is the player who collects the most points from birds, eggs, food, bonus cards, and goals met. 1-5 players, with a game time of 40-70 minutes. ~ Megan

Wingspan is a competitive bird-collection, engine-building game for 1-5 players.

You are bird enthusiasts—researchers, bird watchers, ornithologists, and collectors—seeking to discover and attract the best birds to your aviary. Each bird extends a chain of powerful combinations in one of your habitats (actions). These habitats focus on several key aspects of growth:

Gain food tokens via custom dice in a birdfeeder dice tower

Lay eggs using egg miniatures in a variety of colors

Draw from hundreds of unique bird cards and play them

The winner is the player with the most points accumulated from birds, bonus cards, end-of-round goals, eggs, cached food, and tucked birds.

New printings now also include a "swift-start pack". This pack includes 4 guides and 10 new bird cards to help guide new players through their first game of Wingspan.

Great strategy game!
We love this game! For a strategy game, it's calm and non-stressful, which I love. You can play competitively or not, but either way it's a peaceful game. There are SO many bird cards, all beautiful and educational. All of the pieces are such good quality. The learning curve is a little steep unless you already play a lot of strategy games, so it's good to have someone who's familiar with those help you out the first time through.

Wingspan worth the purchase
Wingspan isn't just for bird lovers, although they will surely enjoy it. It's a very strategic game in which you collect bird cards that provide various way to gain points. The strategic part is determining which method you will use to try and gain the most points of those playing. The game is well made and very attractive as well. The game takes a few hours to play, so consider that when determining whether to purchase. If you have the time, you will definitely enjoy the game.
