Product Description:

Robotics kits with multiple builds are some of our favorites. This versatile kit from OWI combines solar and hydraulic power to propel 12 different robots with no batteries needed. With solar power becoming more popular, and hydraulics a staple in machine engineering, this kit will teach real-world skills in an exciting way. Builds include wheeled units like forklift and excavator that turn and lift, as well as animal-like robots that walk, grip, and bite. Kit includes 230 pieces and a detailed instruction manual. Finished projects range in size from 4.4"x3.7"x4.3" to 9"x9"x10.2".

Publisher Description:

If you have been paying attention, you know OWI's Mini Solar Kit line provides children with the means to harness the power of the sun bringing their robots to life. But this year, OWI is changing the game by introducing a Mini Solar Kit that utilizes not 1 but 2 forms of alternative energy.

Dodeca 12 in 1SolarHydraulicRobot isMassive (30% larger than our best seller),and it's Reinforced(Harvesting the power of the Sun with a Double XL Solar Panel and a Hydraulic Transmission)

This new kit will teach your child how to engineer a robot that uses solar and hydraulic power in harmony, while challenging manual dexterity, and developing self-confidence.

Dodeca 12 in 1 SolarHydraulic Robot'sgear box is a true duel threat as it is powered by direct sunlight, and a hydraulic transmission. No batteries are required. With Dodeca, children are able to actively learn two forms of alternative energy while they create and use their infinite imagination. With alternative energy playing such a pivotal role, there is no better time than now to start children on the path to learning basic concepts behind these technologies.

Dodeca has 12 exciting forms that can be separated in two animated building modes: Automotive (Buggy, Obstacle Avoiding Rover, Excavator, Forklift) and Animals (Elephant, Pterosaurs, Monkey, Ostrich, T-Rex, Crocodile, Scorpion, Dog-Walker)

As the saying goes, "Our children are the future." And if anything is certain about that future, it is that renewable energy sources and green technologies will play a major role in our children's lives.

does this robot turn right and left?
User on May 22, 2020
BEST ANSWER: Most of the models are forward moving only. The buggy does have some right and left movement to the front tires but not a complete 90 degree turn.
Will my 7 year old be able to put this together easily?
A shopper on Nov 28, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Feedback is a little mixed on that score. It's target audience is a year or two older (grades 3 and up) and some have said it was difficult even for children at the lower end of that range. Others have said it was doable. It may depend on the patience and fine motor skills of the child - and the availability of adult supervison/help.
