Publisher Description:

  • The big ideas of the previous two centuries (during the Renaissance & Reformation) fomented upheaval for society during the 1600s: the Puritan Revolution and Glorious Revolution in England and Scotland, the Thirty Years' War in Central Europe, religious struggles in France, the work of Peter the Great in Russia, and the Scientific Revolution throughout Europe, for example. Even art and music underwent many changes!
  • The same roiling issues led the Pilgrims into the Mayflower! But they were not the only ones coming to America. We will watch the entire pageant of New World exploration and settlement (by the English, French, Spanish, Dutch, etc.) in its full context. You'll meet the New World natives who were so impacted, as well!
  • The incredible undercurrents of the Renaissance/Reformation and the 1600s rolled right into the 1700s. As truths and untruths were further built upon, deep change came to many nations. Are not the American and French Revolutions proof of that?! Do you know how different they were...and why?! Do you know that the French Revolution has had more impact on the modern world than the American?! But there's so much more to this century: great musicians, scientists, and authors, all caught in the clash of ideas. Indeed, the 'Enlightenment' would spread the strongly humanistic ideas of Voltaire and Rousseau east to Frederick the Great's Prussia and Catherine the Great's Russia, and west to America. What would be the results? Where might we see God's hand? Let's find out!

Category Description for TruthQuest History:

On occasion you might hear someone define history as the struggle between the haves and the have-nots. As Christians living in a secular society, it is often easy to imbibe false ideas. This history curriculum won't let you have that kind of false idea for long. Instead, you will come to understand the true (i.e. Biblical) definition of history. For example, in your study of Ancient Rome, you will see how the beliefs which nations/individuals hold about God and man can affect the course of history, culture, government etc. This history curriculum is not dependant on specific books since the goal is not to guide students through books, but to guide them through history. Many, many books are recommended since the guide provides very little text (just basic summaries); however, the beauty is that students can pick whichever ones appeal to them or are readily available. No more searching for those impossible to find required readers! As you work your way through the books, you will be challenged to think about some things, to research others, and complete ThinkWrite sections at the back of the book. These sections are designed for students in grades 5-12. Responses to the ThinkWrite sections can be done in a variety of ways including skits, diaries, news reports, models, projects, drawings, and essays.

A new study in this series combines Creation and the Old Testament with the study of Ancients and Egypt. This book follows the same format as the other studies in this series allowing you to choose the reading and resources. The Bible is the ultimate authority on history, but the author suggests some other spines that may be referenced throughout the study - Child's Story Bibleby Catherine Vos, Genesis: A commentary for Childrenby Nancy Ganz, Story of the Ancient World by C. Miller & H.A. Guerber, Book of the Ancient Worldby Dorothy Mills, Streams of Civilization Vol. 1, Genesis: Finding Our Roots by Ruth Beechick, and Greenleaf Guide to the Old Testament. These books aren't required, but are helpful resources if you want to read more on the topics. May your study of history become a study of His Story. ~ Genevieve / Donna

Our family is going to try this book because it was a reference from another homeschool mom. We read the forward and were impressed by the Biblical worldview that it represented.

We loved using the Truthquest elementary series and decided to try out Age of Revolution I for my 9th grade son this year It is every bit as good as the ones for younger students! We have discovered many of our favorite books through this amazing resource If you really want to delve deep into history and get a thorough understanding of each time period-Truthquest is the way to go Your children won't be reading small excerpts from great books or little blurbs about events and people in history-they'll be reading entire living books on different subjects! The highschool series really works well for the entire family as it includes the book selections from the elementary guides The dialogue is geared to older students but I just skip that part with my 3rd grader and read Story of the World to pull it all together for her Mrs Miller (the author) provides a brief description of each book so that you can know at a glance if it's one you or your child would like to read Their are multiple choices for each topic giving the parent and student plenty of options She adds in books and dialogue about artists composers and scientists of each era so that you won't forget to fit these important subjects in to your study of history The only history books I've actually bought to go along with our Truthquest guides are the Story of the World books to cover any world subjects that we may be unable to find a library book about We have a relatively small library and I haven't had any trouble finding more than enough of the books listed in these lovely guides to cover history extensively We are almost finished with Age of Revolution I and have already ordered Age of Revolution II I know that some of our most treasured homeschool memories will come from the many wonderful books that we've discovered through these fabulous guides
