Product Description:

This is a great resource for anyone going to college for or straight into business, as well as those who simply want to have a better understanding of accounting and business transactions. The 21 chapters cover the balance sheet, income statement, statement of retained earnings, statement of cash flow, transactions, journal entries and accounts, posting to the ledger, chart of accounts, income determination, adjusting entries, closing entries, accrual vs. cash accounting, cash, marketable securities, receivables, payables, inventory, long-term assets, forms of businesses and payroll. Each chapter holds a complete explanation of the topic along with examples. Student exercises are comprised of questions from the reading and problems to practice the principle. Two midterm tests and a final test are included. Upon completion, you will have understanding comparable to many colleges' introduction to accounting classes. If more U of I students had used this book, Curtis in Accounting 101 wouldn't be nearly so feared. ~ Steph

My son who took accounting in college said this book would be a good introductory course for his brother to take to prepare for accounting in college.

I wanted to give my high school students a basic idea of accounting not only for the elective credit but as a life skill that they can use well beyond the school years.

I am going to be using this curriculum as part of a homeschool co-op class that I am teaching. I am an accountant by career choice, but I needed something that could easily be adaptable to a once a week class. I'm hoping this will fill that goal.

Is there any teacher's book required, or are the tests in the student book?
Linda on Apr 30, 2021
BEST ANSWER: The student book is all inclusive. All the tests as well as the answers for exercises and tests are included in the back of the student book.

This seemed to be more of a thin quick reference book than a text book. I ordered a textbook and workbook from another source - a far better choice!

Too technical
This book is Very technical. If you do not know Anything about accounting this is not the book to start with. "What is Accounting?" is the first lesson. I could try to rewrite the information given in the lesson but I still wouldn't know what it means. (I was hoping for plain English definitions or explanations of accounting jargon.)

I was dissapointed in this book It really doesnt explain very well and could be completed really fast without knowing really what to do The 21 chapters are actually lessons there is one lesson for a chapter As a review it would be great but if you have not taken accounting before it is confusing
