Product Description:

Set includes a 4" x 6" tray, laminated number and letter cards, and twelve ounces of dough so that children can "build" their own letters and numbers.
The Get Set for School program is the high quality program you would expect from Handwriting Without Tears. This program was designed specifically for the preschool years, and uses the fun methods you would expect for that age. This program employs a unique, multisensory approach which prepares children to write. Children will play, build, sing, color and learn while developing important skills. Readiness & Writing Pre-K Teacher's Guide, now in its 8th edition, provides everything you need to understand the program and developmental stages to effectively teach the lessons. Topically, children learn the alphabet, letter and number recognition and formation, counting, shapes, colors and drawing. The writing focus is on uppercase letters, while lowercase letters are taught toward the end of the year (beginning in Week 30) using the My First Lowercase Book. Complete explanations are given on how to use the suggested manipulatives. Lessons are easy to use and there is a suggested 36 week schedule found in the front of the book. Crayon skills are developed while using special pages for scribbling and coloring. Strokes are practiced on "Mat Man" before ever making a letter. Capital letters and numbers are then practiced using a crayon. There are also extra activity pages which check readiness skills.

I Know My Numbers is a set of 10 small horizontal booklets (14 pgs ea), each centered on a number 1-10 that a student methodically works through as they practice writing and understanding these numbers. They are full of charming black and white illustrations and clear instruction. Little Chalk Bits is a good sized box (about 6.5"x 4"x 2) full of 1 pieces of thin (1cm) white chalk. This will go a long way! Little Sponge Cubes is a set of 100 (50 yellow/50 blue) small cubes (1cm) of kitchen sponge. Just right for tiny fingers to erase with!

This is a wonderful introduction to the world of handwriting for the preschool child. We offer several packages with both the most essential and also with recommended items for the program to fit your budget.

A follow up book to preschool is Kick Start Kindergarten, which reviews upper and lowercase letters, or the Kindergarten program, Letters and Numbers for Me.

Do these cards cover upper case and lower case, or just upper case?
Jessica on Dec 31, 2022
BEST ANSWER: Just upper can (capital). I believe there are cards for numbers too, but they might be sold separately.
Does the dough have wheat flour in it like playdough does?
Nicole on Aug 30, 2020
BEST ANSWER: Yes. There is a note that says they are unable to supply gluten-free dough in the kit because of the shelf life. I think they have a link for a recipe to make your own gluten-free dough, but I can’t remember for sure.

HWT Roll-a-dough Letters
I really like this product. Not only does it help teach the letter through a tactile medium it has helped developed my child's fine motor skills because he has to roll the dough out onto "snakes".

Hands on fun
I've used the HWT products as a teacher in a classroom setting. I purchased the roll a dough letters for my three year old to use at home. She loves this stuff. Definitely would recommend to anyone with little ones.
