Expanding on human anatomy, this course focuses on blood and how it takes care of all the parts of our body. Beginning with an overview of cells, students learn about red blood cells, white blood cells, platelets, making blood cells and platelets. Once the foundation is laid, the three types of blood vessels, the heart, and how circulation works with other body systems is covered. Additional materials recommended include an elementary microscope (400x), prepared slides of onion cells and red blood cells (or photographs) double-injected animal specimen that shows arteries and veins in different colors or animal photo that shows arteries and veins in different colors, timer, red and blue pencils or markers, 3’ long drawing paper, buttons (6 small red, 6 small blue, and larger button any color), plastic heart model or photograph, masking tape, and butcher paper.
