Category Description for Saxon Middle School Programs:

Featuring the same methodology as previous editions plus enhanced mathematical content, Homeschool Kits contain a non-consumable student edition textbook, consumable tests and worksheets for one student, and a solutions manual. All three components of the Homeschool Kit come softbound. The Student Edition Text uses a two-color page layout, as opposed to the black and white pages of prior editions. Tests and Worksheets include a significant amount of fact drill practice, course tests, as well as various forms for recording student progress. Solutions Manual contains solutions to all problems in the text and tests.

Category Description for Saxon Math:

Students like Saxon because they feel successful in math instead of overwhelmed.

The most popular homeschooling math program hands down! Highly recommended by both Mary Pride and Cathy Duffy, Saxon Math also wins our award for the "Most Requested Text." Saxon math is a "user-friendly" math program - even for Algebra, Trigonometry, Calculus and other usually difficult math topics. Learning is incremental and each new concept is continuously reviewed, so the learning has time to "sink in" instead of being forgotten when the next topic is presented. Higher scores on standardized tests and increased enrollments in upper-level math and science classes have resulted where Saxon has been used in public schools. Students like Saxon because they feel successful in math instead of overwhelmed. Because of the format, children are able to work more independently.

Best math curriculum in the world because it is classical and it is incremental. Kids over practice the basics so that they master them and therefore can focus on higher math concepts as they are introduced instead of struggle with stuff they have already learned.

I have taught and tutored math for 19 years. The Saxon 5/4,6/5 and 7/6 series sets a great foundation for Algebra 1. After the Advanced Math book, students are well prepared to take Pre-Calculus at the college level. Great foundation for college level math/science degrees.
Marybeth T on Aug 31, 2022
It works!
Carla A on Aug 26, 2022
After many tears and frustration with another math program, we switched to Saxon 5/4 last year and now math is so much better. Saxon just suits my child's study style better, so of course we are continuing with Saxon this year. It is well organized, well written, and easy to follow. If your child prefers structure, with no distracting pictures or boxes, Saxon, being traditional and straight forward, might be suitable.

its a good book for student.
Yolanda T on May 19, 2022
Have tried other math workbooks. Saxon is most thorough and easy to teach. Teaching new lessons is a breeze because they are written word for word. And it spirals so that they don't lose skills. Recommend for all grade levels
Kathryn B on May 5, 2022
I prefer Saxon's easy to understand, methodical, incremental system with spiral review.

If you want your child to have a solid math foundation this is the best choice. My friends brother is an engineer and recently pulled his kids out of school to homeschool and this is the curriculum he chose. As well my buddy is a math teacher and is my child tutor and also states that this is as solid as it gets.

Excellent for children with autism. Previous lesson concepts are repeated and reiterated with each new lesson along with the new lesson material. It is essentially like a continued review throughout the text

Generally speaking, when a bundle does not show images to view, try clicking on the textbook alone.
My daughter is entering 6th grade and just finished 5/4(5th grade). Is 6/5 considered 6th grade math or 7/6? Which should I do next? I didn't use Saxon at this level for my older children so I am confused about the order/grade levels.
A shopper on Aug 25, 2020
BEST ANSWER: The Math 5/4, Math 6/5, etc. designations are confusing and have been viewed various ways by different individuals. Currently, when compared to typical grade level curricula, Math 5/4 would be a 4th grade course; Math 6/5 would be 5th grade; Math 7/6 would be 6th grade; and Math 8/7 would be 7th grade. That being said, the courses do work well for struggling students in the upper designated grade. For instance, Math 8/7 might be used for a struggling 8th grader as well as an average 7th grader.
I used saxon 4 intermediate can I go to saxon 6/5?
A shopper on Apr 23, 2019
BEST ANSWER: Yes, you can. Saxon Intermediate Math 4 has roughly the same scope and sequence as Math 5/4 so your student should be well prepared to move into Math 6/5.

I used Saxon Math 5/4 for my fourth graders last year. Is Saxon Math 6/5 next or should I use Saxon math 5 intermediate?
User on Aug 20, 2016
BEST ANSWER: We have been using Saxon for a few years now and have gone straight from 5/4 to 6/5. Saxon does have a placement test on their website that is very helpful for determining which text is most appropriate.
I will be teaching triplet boys do I need to get three student workbooks and three consumable tests and worksheet books or could I make copies?
User on Jul 31, 2016
BEST ANSWER: You can make copies but in the end it would be super expensive.
The more affordable option would be to buy 1 workbook and have a notebook for each student where they could just answer the questions from the workbook. And buy 1 test booklet and just make copies for the warm-ups and tests.
I hope this helps.
I will be teaching triplet boys do I need to get three student workbooks and three consumable tests and worksheet books or could I make copies?
A shopper on Jul 31, 2016
BEST ANSWER: From the copyright info in the books, it is my understanding that the company would like for you to have one for each student. At that age, I just made each of my girls do the work in a notebook, leaving the books unmarked for the next student. However, my 3 weren't all working in the same book at the same time. If I remember correctly, there are less than 30 tests, which wouldn't be too much to make copies of, but there is at least 1 worksheet for every lesson, which is a lot to copy. Hope this helps!!
I will be teaching triplet boys do I need to get three student workbooks and three test and worksheets workbooks or can I make copy's and pass them out?
A shopper on Jul 31, 2016
BEST ANSWER: I love the Saxton Math homeschool kits. The kit I order comes with the math book, solutions manual, and test book. I have my children write the answers to the questions in each lesson in a graph paper notebook, and with the tests they write answers on a sheet of paper to be filled. This allows me to use one math kit for the family.

A clear system
It is a clear simple system that helps the homeschooling parent help their student along. I especially like how out incorporates daily speed drills. That speed proficiency is going to be a determining factor for advancing later in the higher maths.

Trusted Quality
We've used Saxon for few years now and love it. I am a former middle school math teacher and I can say definitely that if public schools used Saxon it would make a HUGE difference. I started using it a few years ago when my oldest leveled out of Right Start Math (which we also loved) but we struggled for about a year to find something to move her into. We finally got Saxon and she is starting Algebra 2 next week. When her brother finished RS, I got this 6/5 Saxon for him immediately. Love it.

Great math program!
Using this math program, along with Nicole The Math Lady, has been an excellent experience. Despite himself, my son is really getting the concepts. New lesson, practice problems of the lesson, and then review of past lessons - fantastic.
