Product Description:

The Anatomy Notebooking Journal is an integral element for those using the Human Anatomy and Physiology book. This journal is uniquely designed to correspond with every assignment and activity in the course book. This Notebooking Journal serves as each student's individual notebook, providing a place for each student to complete every assignment in the book, including the notebook activities, the Personal Person Project, experiments and much, much more.

Included in the Anatomy Notebooking Journal is:

  • A daily Schedule for completing the readings, notebook assignments, activities and experiments utilizing a two-day per week plan.
  • Personal Person templates for your student to use when creating their paper model of a human body. Full color illustrations of the organs and body systems about which your child learns are provided for your student to cut out and fasten to their model of a human body. At the end of the course, the student will have placed every organ on their Personal Person.
  • Fascinating Facts Templates for your student to record what they learned with both words and illustrations for each lesson.
  • Templates for completing the Notebooking Activities.
  • Review Questions for each lesson, which can be answered orally or in writing as a written narration.
  • Scripture Copywork, with both print and cursive practice - which is a valuable method for memorizing Scripture, teaching spelling, grammar and writing, as well as handwriting practice.
  • Project Pages and Scientific Speculation Sheets for the student to keep a record of and log experiments or projects completed throughout the course.More to Explore ideas for each lesson, which compiles additional activities, projects, experiments, books or videos that correlate with the lesson.
  • Beautiful, full-color, lapbook-style Miniature Books, which the students may wish to create, encouraging them to record facts and information they learned in each lesson. These are then placed on the Miniature Book Paste Page, to display in their notebook.
  • Field Trip Sheets to keep a record field trips they enjoyed during their studies.
  • A Final Review with fifty questions the students can answer either orally or in writing to show off all they remember and know about anatomy at the end of the course.

These Notebooking Journals are a perfect compliment to the Exploring Creation series, serving to increase each student's retention of the material they encounter throughout the course and providing an economical means for your child to create a beautiful keepsake of their learning. Each student will cherish their individual notebook as they make it their very own with words and illustrations reflecting all they have learned in their journey through the human body. Additionally, it provides you with a record of your student's scientific endeavors throughout the year. Not only that, it is a great tool for review: When your child flips through their notebook, they will be reminded of the knowledge they have attained, reviewing the material as they enjoy perusing the pages they have created.

A variety of activities include full-color mini-books, additional fun experiments, crosswords, and supplementary materials. Recommended for use with students who have mastered handwriting, can take notes, and enjoy upper elementary level activities.

Exactly what was needed in the Apologia elementary science scope and sequence the Human Body. We waited awhile for this, but it was worth the wait (as we knew it would be). Continuing their pattern of in-depth studies, exciting information, engaging activities, and biblical worldview, this latest course examines the body systems skeletal, muscular, respiratory, digestive, cardiovascular, nervous along with nutrition, health, embryology, the immune system, and the major organs. It also provides a brief history of medicine and an introduction to cell structure and DNA. Activities within the fourteen lessons include finding blood type, making a cell model, and building a skeleton. Oh! And be prepared! Your student will be looking for household bacteria. ~ Janice

Category Description for Apologia Science (K-6):

This popular elementary science series was originally created when Jeannie Fulbright, author and homeschool mom, was looking for a quality elementary science series that was creation-based using the Charlotte Mason approach. When she didn't find the curriculum she was looking for she decided to create her own. These books use the classical and Charlotte Mason methodology including narration and notebooking to develop critical thinking, logical ordering, retention, and record keeping. The series has since expanded to cover more science topics. New for 2021 is Earth Science, authored by Rachel Yunis, author of Exploring Creation with Advanced Biology.

Since the Charlotte Mason method is employed, every lesson is organized with a narrative, notebook work, an activity, and a project. The student notebook is emphasized in the lessons. Activities and projects bring the lessons to life and use simple household items. While the author's intent is for the parent to read these books to elementary students, a student with a 4th-grade reading level could read these books on their own. The books come from a strong creationist viewpoint, including sections called "Creation Confirmation" and Scripture interwoven throughout the book. Apologia recommends spending an entire year covering each book, taking about two weeks to explore most lessons (some lessons may require more time).

Notebooking Journals were a later - and welcome - addition to the series. As they complete the courses, students were encouraged to compile a notebook to collect and display the information they are learning. The Apologia Notebooking Journals now provide a place for the student to complete every assignment, to record experiments and to display work. Included are weekly lesson plans, templates for recording fascinating facts and assignments, and scripture copywork in both print and cursive models. In addition to full-color Miniature Books (for recording facts and information and pasting directly into the notebook), there are optional ideas (Take it Further in Astronomy; Dig in Deeper in Botany; Fly Higher in Zoology, etc.) for lots of additional activities, projects, experiments, books or videos, all of which correlate with specific lessons in each course. Along these lines, the Personal Person project in both of the Anatomy notebooks is special providing clear vinyl overlays of each body system. Be prepared to cut these out, though.

Junior Notebooking Journals are a simplified version of the orignal Notebooking Journals and require less handwriting but have the same reinforcing activities. These books include coloring pages, project pages, and cut and fold miniature books (same ones as in the version for older students). There is space for notebooking assignments (more drawings, no questions to answer) and scripture copywork (shorter verses to copy either in manuscript or in beginning cursive). Biblical quotations are from the NASB, KJV, NIV or NKJV.

To complete the books all you will need to provide is scissors, glue, colored pencils, a stapler, and a few brass fasteners. There are plenty of activity options in the journals, but keep in mind that based on your student, you may not want to complete every activity. Work can be tailored to each student by simply tearing out unwanted pages from the spiral-bound book. Serving both as a uniquely expressed record of the student's work and as a prized reminder of acquired knowledge, these books will become a homeschooling heirloom.

For convenience, we now offer either Advantage Sets or SuperSets. Advantage Sets include the textbook and either the Junior or original Notebooking Journal. SuperSets include the text, the MP3 Audiobook CD and either the Junior or the original Notebooking Journal.

We also offer lab kits from Nature's Workshop for the elementary courses. Kits contain most of the materials for the experiments, and are conveniently packaged by lesson in the corresponding book (sold separately). There are still a few items you will need from around your house, but with these kits the list becomes extremely short. ~ Janice / Jerry

Category Description for Apologia Science:

Apologia Science courses are written from a Biblical worldview with the homeschool in mind. At the elementary level, courses follow a Charlotte Mason-inspired methodology, with lessons organized around narration, notebooking exercises and hands-on activities or projects. Children at different ages can use these together, learning at their own level. Each course is designed to be teacher-student interactive, so teacher involvement is fairly high at this level. At the junior high and high school levels, science courses are more traditional in nature, with the textbook written to the student. Teacher involvement time at this level is much less than at the elementary level. Textbooks contain student reading, lab instructions, "On Your Own" questions and Study Guide questions. A Solutions Manual provides the answers to these and the test questions. Lab kits are available separately for both the elementary and upper-level science courses which include most of the harder to find items you will need.

Category Description for COMPREHENSIVE SCIENCE PROGRAMS:

We have 1 journal for another class and the kids found that they liked the layout of the journals and how well they could use them to self teach. Due to health issues, methods that make self learning easier or more organized is beneficial.

My daughter usually just does more of a Charlotte Mason notebooking style, but with anatomy she really needed more visuals of the body to reinforce what she was reading.

My son completed this course and now it's my daughter's turn. The journal just makes it easy to work through the lessons.

Provides variety of exercises, reviewing the chapter, plus colorful craft each chapter to write up main facts/ideas. Could just create notebook ourselves, but having the prepared pages makes getting the schoolday done easier. Also prompts student to be more independent, working through notebook pages rather than being given blank paper to complete.

Planning to use this for science. I originally purchased one of each for review. I didn't know if I would use the journal enough to warrant purchasing additional copies, but I am pleased with the content and expect to use the journal regularly with each child. I like that there is a separate option for younger students.

Does the notebook journal come with an answer key?
Marie on Aug 9, 2019
BEST ANSWER: The journal does not come with an answer key, but the review questions in the journal are the same at the end of the chapters in the textbook.. The answers to the review questions can be found on pages 253 through 257 of the actual textbook (Exploring Creation with Human Anatomy and Physiology).

Great Addition to Science Textbook
Assignments are broken down by weeks and days in the front of this. So I am able to write the dates next to the assignments I want my 4th and 6th grader to complete. I also like the assignments within the journal itself.

8 year old LOVES it
My daughter is so excited about this book. We already did the zoology text and notebooking journal, and they were good as well. My daughter wants to be a nurse when she grows up and is delighted by all of the interesting hands-on activities she is going to get to do with this book.

Science made easy and fun.
I wish I had chosen this series sooner. The experiments use objects from around the house or are easily obtained at the grocery store making them easy to complete as well as reinforcing that science is everywhere in the would around us. My son said he likes the text because it seems like the author is talking to him.

These journals make it easier for my children to keep their thoughts organized. They come with a build in schedule so they know just want to read in their text and what projects they are to do each day.

I feel like the journals though non-essential keep students on track and set them up to succeed. I would suggest anyone give this a try.

A few months ago my oldest son expressed a desire for learning more about the human body but we had no curriculum per se in our hands I had a book or two about the human body but still I wanted him to dig deeper and learn more Apologia's newest addition to their Young Explorer Series - Human Anatomy and Physiology - seemed the answer When we received the text and notebooking journals my two oldest kids were very excited about it Dominic was particularly excited about the Junior Anatomy Notebooking Journal The text is well written and contains tons of information It is packed with information activities and more If you could pick only one book on the subject this book is well-written and contains tons of information activities and more In the first chapter we learned about the history of how people have started to study the human anatomy and are even experimenting with the information For example in the book there is an experiment that allows you to mummify an apple which clearly demonstrate how the Egyptians were mummifying their dead The Junior Anatomy Notebooking Journal has been well received by my 6 year-old He was very happy to be able to do some specific lessons with his big brother He and his older brother had a lot of fun learning about cell anatomy together The Anatomy Notebooking Journal is geared for older children who will have no trouble doing some writing work Also included in this book are copywork and writing exercises but you will also find a What Do You Remember? section for each lesson as well as vocabulary crosswords The writing is a bit more demanding and the child is required to provide longer answers Recently we started the second chapter of the book which is about the bones in our bodies One of the first "experiments" the kids had to do was to create a man out of clay and see if he could stand without bones Then afterward they had to put the bones in and see if he could stand or not This exercise was good to demonstrate how important the bones were for humans We also had some good laughs during this simple and yet very demonstrative experienceAs a homeschooling family it is important that we find quality material to help our kids to learn The Exploring Creation with Human Anatomy and Physiology is such a product We are blessed beyond measure with this curriculum
