Product Description:

I am excited that Ray and Charlene Notgrass have written this excellent, one year world history course! While many families enjoy a chronological, multi-year approach to world history, others prefer to study history in a more traditional manner-one year at a time. Written in the engaging narrative voice' that has made the Notgrass courses beloved by many homeschool families, this new World History begins at the very foundation of our Christian foundation- Adam and journeys to the end of the 20th century, with a final unit on our interconnected world (from the thrill of world-wide sporting events to turmoil in the Middle East).

Containing 30 units, with 5 lessons per unit, this course will take students one year to complete. It is anticipated that daily lessons will take 45-90 minutes per day, although it is naturally flexible for homeschool families to set their own pace. While the target grade range is 5 through 8, families with younger children will find this a perfect read aloud' curriculum, as the text has been clearly and engagingly written.

Let me give a bit of an example of how the unit lessons are laid out. At the start of each unit, there is a brief introduction to the lessons including the recommended literature selection to accompany the reading. Each weekly unit has one lesson from each of five categories: Our World Story (major events in history); God's Wonders (impact of the world's created wonders on history and culture); World Landmarks; World Biography of some of history's most influential personalities and Daily Life (an inside view of everyday life). Daily lessons are richly illustrated with graphics and photographs, including maps of historic places and regions. At the conclusion of each lesson (approximately 5-8 pages), parents and children will select assignments to complete from a list of 5-7 assignments. Older students may be able to complete all the activities-but again- there is built-in flexibility for your individual family's needs. Assignments include readings from the Our Creative World book (collection of original documents); Map Book assignments; Timeline Book assignments; assignments from the Student Workbook and Lesson Review Book (optional resources), as well as language arts assignments covering vocabulary, creative writing, literature selections. Thinking Biblically assignments are also included with most lessons and are designed to engage students in applying Scripture to history and life. Each unit also provides a suggested weekly family activity-projects vary and include arts and crafts, recipes and games. Materials are easily found for the projects and are designed to bring the family together to enjoy time together building memories.

Curriculum package contains From Adam to Us Part 1 & 2; Our Creative World, Map Book, Timeline Book and the Answer Key to end of the lessons questions as well as the activities and tests in the Student Workbook and the questions and tests in the Lesson Review. Although it is possible to share the Map and Timeline books, they are available separately, allowing each child to have their own copy. I suspect that most children will be eager to create their own map and timeline.

If you would like to add more supplemental instruction or review, consider the Student Workbook (5th-6th grade) or the Lesson Review (7th-8th grades). Both include additional assignments that correspond to the daily lesson as well as unit tests and questions related to the literature selections. Most literature based questions are recall based. However, there are a smattering of higher level thinking questions.

Middle school children will be enthralled as they view world history through the lens of a Creator God who is alive and active, from the very foundation of our world through present day. ~ Deanne

We love the Notgrass History America the Beautiful. We can't wait to do this new curriculum.

I am trying to find a balance between a heavy literature history curriculum..like Beautiful Feet...and a textbook feeling history curriculum. I have heard good things about this program so I am going to give this a go for my middle schoolers, who have not enjoyed the 2 extremes of the history curriculum realm. :)

A friend recommended this publisher. After looking at a sample of the curriculum and using 3 other history programs in past years, I'm hoping this one is what I've been looking for. I'm excited to be able to teach multiple kids using the same text.

After years of doing specific time periods (Medieval, US History, Ancient History, etc) nice to do a year of just summing it all up. I like that the literature is incorporated and the bright and modern look to the curriculum is very appealing. Upon reviewing the content, it's presented in a way that is clear and intuitive to teach.

I have used Georgia History from Notgrass for both of my girls and loved it. I am a working homeschooler, so the lessons being built for the independent learner are a tremendous help.

Spoke directly with Charlene Notgrass after product information sales rep recommended this curriculum and was inspired to purchase it!

It incorporates historical art, geography, and biographies. I've been supplementing those and am excited to have them work with the history as we go and it's already in there. I like the set up and the book looks very child friendly. I hope we like it since it's rather new to the market!

Is the student workbook sold separately?
Kerri on Nov 21, 2022
BEST ANSWER: Yes, because you can choose the lesson review OR the student notebook based on your child’s grade/ability. Lesson review has only questions to answer whereas the Student Notebook has activities suited for the younger child. The answer key in the package has answers to both.
If I'm using this with 2 children, what products in the curriculum package do I need to purchase 2 of? Thanks!

Made my daughter love history!
My daughter used FATU for her 8th grade year, her first time being an independent learner, after years of family-style homeschooling. She loved the content so much… and this from someone who previously found history boring. The coverage of a variety of different cultures was well-done, and had her high school brother reading over her shoulder. The writing prompts brought out her creative side. I greatly appreciate the original source documents and classic literature. We plan to continue with Notgrass throughout high school. I used the World high school program for her brother this year too and loved it. Next year I will be using Exploring America for both of them, family-style.

From Adam to Us takes quite a bit of time. It covers ground my husband and I never covered in school. My daughter rates this as her favorite subject, a surprise to us as no other family member is a history buff.

A nice introduction to World History
With 14 years public school teaching experience, I tried several history curriculums for homeschooling but was not satisfied until a friend told me about Notgrass. I was hooked immediately and they are generous with sampling the material on their website so you really get a feel for what they are offering. My 6th grader completed From Adam to Us this past year. It is a nice balance between biblical history and world history. I appreciated how it included the entire world history, not just European history, and how topics were organized into weekly chunks of what was happening around the world during that similar time period. There is so much in world history that it is impossible to include everything, but I feel Notgrass gives a balanced, concise, and inclusive amount of material and families can always dive deeper into topics they want to explore further.

Best History Curriculum I've used!
I've homeschooled for almost six years and the Notgrass History is by far the best. It has all I want in a history curriculum and more! Christian worldview, logically laid out, interesting stories, timeline and map along with various activity suggestions to do or not do. It is more than likely the only history curriculum we will use from now on. SO thankful for it!

This is a wonderful World History curriculum
I highly recommend this World History curriculum. I used it while homeschooling my 8th grade son. We both enjoyed it. The pictures in the books are beautiful. I especially liked how this gives you a picture of what was happening in different places in God's world all throughout history. At the end of each lesson the assignments are clearly listed for you to choose from. My son did the student workbook(which he called-the fun pages), the lesson review, the mapping and he also read the suggested literature. His favorite was: The Bronze Bow. This is a wonderful curriculum that helps you to see God in all things.

Finished all 150 lessons
Our family (boys in 7th, 5th, and 3rd) loved this curriculum. We listened to the audio lessons together as a family and read along in the textbooks. We also used the map books, lesson review books, and literature books as read-alouds. We were enthralled with the gorgeous photos! This course presents the entire history of the world in one year, so naturally the pace is quick, and some lessons cover a lot of information. I felt the level of detail to be just right for a broad survey course like this. The varied focus of each lesson (biography, landmarks, geography) kept things interesting for all of us.
