Description

I really like the idea of a child interacting with a map – following their natural curiosity to learn about places they choose. This map is simple and colorful. You choose a function button in the bottom right, then push on the state you wish to learn about. The states have the capital and largest city highlighted and some include what that state is known for (KS has sunflowers, GA has a peach and so on.) Iowa shows soybeans and a tractor, along with a pair of potatoes. While this is a garden item in IA, it is not a crop they are known for, but it seems forgivable here. This map requires 3 AAA batteries in the yellow plastic part at the top. You can hang this on the wall with a nail and some double-sided adhesive or sticky-tack. It would work ok on a flat surface, but you don't want kids to lean on it or step on it. The soft plastic surface can be wiped with a damp cloth. Be sure to read and follow the simple instructions inside the box. The bright colors make this a magnet for kids to engage with over and over again. It's a fun way to help children learn states and capitals, while they prepare for the time when they learn about American history on a deeper level. ~Sara
