It was HOT and I hurt myself often, but it didn’t stop me from making lamps for my dollhouse and many other creations. A nice glue gun will last you for years. Luckily, they seem to be less intense on the heat these days. I like how Surebonder has an option with a high/low temperature button as well as a low-temp only option. Both full-size options stand up using a removable stand. Trust me, you don’t want a hot glue gun laying on your table without a silicone mat beneath.
