Category Description for Saxon Math:

Students like Saxon because they feel successful in math instead of overwhelmed.

The most popular homeschooling math program hands down! Highly recommended by both Mary Pride and Cathy Duffy, Saxon Math also wins our award for the "Most Requested Text." Saxon math is a "user-friendly" math program - even for Algebra, Trigonometry, Calculus and other usually difficult math topics. Learning is incremental and each new concept is continuously reviewed, so the learning has time to "sink in" instead of being forgotten when the next topic is presented. Higher scores on standardized tests and increased enrollments in upper-level math and science classes have resulted where Saxon has been used in public schools. Students like Saxon because they feel successful in math instead of overwhelmed. Because of the format, children are able to work more independently.

The Saxon Math program is easy to use and helps the students master the basics before moving on. We used this program with my older daughter, so now I am purchasing the consumable books to use with my younger daughter.

This is basically a daily meeting notebook which contains a monthly calendar for each month, the daily weather, and some other shape/color patterns. Helpful for children to learn the months, days of the week, year, colors, and shapes.
Janelle H on Mar 10, 2021
I used Saxon with all of my children. I LOVE this curriculum, very hands-on and engaging. Gives a SOLID foundation in math! Also, very easy to teach - everything is laid out for you. Once you have the workbooks, meeting book, and manipulatives you just pick it up and go. No extra planning needed.
Steph M on Feb 24, 2021
I have made my own math meeting books before but this is just easier and has the extra pages in it for graphs and other math activities. It is much easier than making your own.

I thought this was included with the Saxon 1 homeschool set, but it appears it needs to be ordered separately. The meeting book is very helpful for teaching month/day/year and getting your child familiar with a calendar.

I have used Saxon math for many years with my older children and I will continue to use and recommend it to others. My youngest is now homeschooling and starting Kindergarten, so we are using Saxon 1 after using K for Pre-K last year. The Meeting is a great way to start the school day after devotions.

Don't skip this!
I know sometimes it is tempting to skip over "extra" curriculum pieces but this one is a must! It reinforces counting and skip counting, teaches about charting and weather and seasons and dates.

Saxon 1 Meeting Book
Me and my children are really getting a grasp on math thanks to Saxon Math Curriculum. I've read many a review that complain about the redundancy of the worksheets, but I have my older child do one worksheet earlier in the day and the other one later. If you see your child is having no difficulty grasping a concept, then he or she may not need to do both worksheets. Up to you!

This review is for the Meeting book (look elsewhere for my review of the workbooks): The Math 1 meeting book was for us a waste of money Even at only $10 I'm really good at math so I didn't buy the teacher's edition and there was nothing to explain certain portions of the meeting book Beyond that it's just a calendar where you can record the weather Instead I put a nice-to-look-at calendar at kid level and let them record the weather there The only other thing in it is the names of the geometric shapes but we have a nice set of pattern blocks already so that was pointless To sum it all up the Meeting Book is probably very helpful if you are using the kit but it isn't if you are really pinching your pennies
