Category Description for Saxon K-3 Program:

The Teacher's Manual contains the actual lesson plans and information vital to the effective presentation of math concepts. The consumable Meeting Books are used during the teacher-student "meeting" in which concepts are introduced, demonstrated and practiced. If teaching more than one student at the same level, you will only need one meeting book. Consumable Student Workbooks are used in grades 1-3 only and contain student materials, flash cards and practice pages. The Math K Home Study Kit contains teacher edition and meeting book. Math 1, 2, and 3 kits contain teacher edition, meeting book, and a set of 2 workbooks. Manipulatives are a vital, integral part of the program; these are not included in the Home Study Kits, but are available through us also.

Category Description for Saxon Math:

Students like Saxon because they feel successful in math instead of overwhelmed.

The most popular homeschooling math program hands down! Highly recommended by both Mary Pride and Cathy Duffy, Saxon Math also wins our award for the "Most Requested Text." Saxon math is a "user-friendly" math program - even for Algebra, Trigonometry, Calculus and other usually difficult math topics. Learning is incremental and each new concept is continuously reviewed, so the learning has time to "sink in" instead of being forgotten when the next topic is presented. Higher scores on standardized tests and increased enrollments in upper-level math and science classes have resulted where Saxon has been used in public schools. Students like Saxon because they feel successful in math instead of overwhelmed. Because of the format, children are able to work more independently.

I switched to Saxon Math for my son 5/4 and 7/6 and have really enjoyed it. There is a lot of review, which my children need. So with my daughter just starting her kindergarten journey, I decided to start her in Saxon since it's working so well for her older brother.

This is my first year homeschooling and we've fallen in love with the classical method of education. We are currently using Classical Conversations and in the grammar stage children learn by repetition and this seems to be the perfect fit for that learning style since it's a concept we've already been using. Can't wait to give this a try.

Can the k-3 manipulative kit be used for 1 family? I have a K, 2nd and 4th grader. Or do they each need their own manipulatives?
A shopper on Aug 31, 2020
BEST ANSWER: Yes, there are enough pieces included to share one kit per family! They will not usually need the same components on the same days anyway if they are working in three different book levels. But even if you have a day where all kids are using, say, the pattern blocks the same day, there are enough pieces to go around. Hope this helps.
When will this be in stock?
Leah M on Aug 27, 2020
BEST ANSWER: The publisher is having to reprint this course. They have told us it will be early October before they will be back into stock.
Does Saxon Math K book have pattern block templates?
Alia L on May 14, 2019
BEST ANSWER: yes, the Teacher's Manual has all the Master sheets printed in the back and you just make copies. It also has additional option worksheets you can add in for more practice and they indicate which lessons are the best place to add them in.
Do we need manipulatives for saxon math kindergarten? Recommendations?
A shopper on Sep 5, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Yes, the basic saxon manipulatives kit can be used from K thru 3rd grade if you stick with Saxon.
What manipulation kit should I buy? I am planning to use Saxon math at least through the 3rd grade.
A shopper on Mar 6, 2017
BEST ANSWER: The K-3 manipulatives kit options are found here -

A chart showing which manipulatives are used with each grade is found here -

I usually say to just get the basic kit - #MPC000 -
Is Saxon K math aligned with common core?
A shopper on Feb 11, 2017
BEST ANSWER: No, Saxon K is not aligned with Common Core. They use a ton of manipulatives to help the children learn key concepts. We used many different math curricula and found Saxon to be the best for us!

Saxon Math K
This curriculum is great for those with visual or tactile learners. A little preparation has to done in advance to gather supplies (linking cubes, pattern blocks, etc) but it's definitely worth it. My children approach their Saxon K lessons as if they were playing a game. They truly enjoy the curriculum. I do wish that the student activity booklet was more in depth. I've found that I need to supplement the lessons on occasion.

It’s laid out for you which I really like, it’s really easy and short.
Just started this with my kindergarten and I feel like it’s a little to easy for him so far, my 4 yr old is even doing it with us at ease and the lessons are really short. If it doesn’t get longer I’m probably going to add some other stuff to my lessons as well

A great set!
I’ve always enjoyed using the Saxon math program. I didn’t use it for kindergarten for my older two, but I’m so glad I decided to for my third. She is ravenous when it comes to schoolwork and this is working out great - nice tidbits of work with real results.

Saxon Math K
As a busy homeschool mom, this program requires too many extra supplies and I find this particular book to be unnecessary. Skip Saxon until 5/4. I really enjoy the upper level Saxon books but not the K level.

Love that it gives you the dialogue!
My son and I have just started using this curriculum. We are currently on lesson 14 and it's been great so far! I love that it gives you exactly what to say during the lesson. I was nervous about how to teach math concepts but now that I have done a few lessons I feel more comfortable going "off script" if I need to. Some of the lessons were VERY basic and sort of repetitive at the beginning so I skipped a few. Overall, I'm very happy and I will continue to use Saxon math for years to come!

Great program for a younger kindergartener
I am homeschooling my 9th child. This is our 20th year o homeschool. I had never used the Saxon K before; I had always used the Saxon 1 and did half of it in kindergarten and finished it in 1st grade. My daughter is a young kindergartener and she has thrived with it. Such fun and a great introduction to math for young ones.
