Category Description for Saxon Math:

Students like Saxon because they feel successful in math instead of overwhelmed.

The most popular homeschooling math program hands down! Highly recommended by both Mary Pride and Cathy Duffy, Saxon Math also wins our award for the "Most Requested Text." Saxon math is a "user-friendly" math program - even for Algebra, Trigonometry, Calculus and other usually difficult math topics. Learning is incremental and each new concept is continuously reviewed, so the learning has time to "sink in" instead of being forgotten when the next topic is presented. Higher scores on standardized tests and increased enrollments in upper-level math and science classes have resulted where Saxon has been used in public schools. Students like Saxon because they feel successful in math instead of overwhelmed. Because of the format, children are able to work more independently.

I prefer a spiral type curriculum, like Saxon, and they cover from early math, to upper high school math, so my kids can use the same consistent curriculum throughout their schooling. Also, the lessons are very well explained in the book, so there is a certain amount of independent learning that can happen, essential when I am trying to teach 3 different levels of math at once!

Finally took the Saxon plunge for Algebra last year after trying others...
After 1 month I was sold...more so...our teenage son was sold!!!
We love the format, solutions manual is awesome, and having a solid BOOK to hold in my hands and filp back chapters to refresh memory is wonderful!!!
(After the month, we switched all of our kids to Saxon!!! I WISH we would have done this from the beginning!!!)

We have used Saxon Math in the past and our son prefers it to other options, including online. He likes the way the lessons are organized and finds it easier to learn from the books.

Saxon is a proven high-quality math curriculum, and I will be using it with the Nicole the Math Lady program for video instruction and online grading. I used her program for two of my children last year and we all loved it and the results in math understanding it produced.

Saxon math is an amazing math curriculum that allows the student to reach mastery without the student even realizing it! The repetition and incremental distribution of instruction is seamless and tolerable. I also like that Saxon's Algebra 1 and 2 incorporate Geometry. So by the time you finish both curriculum you have also accomplished a third!
Trisha C on Feb 11, 2021
TRIED OTHER CURRICULA AND KEEP GOING BACK TO SAXON.. easier for me to follow as a parent and reteach..scaffolded teaching works best

Because we are confident in this curriculum and want to use Nicole the math lady's videos to help teach it.

We have used all of the previous Saxon math books. They have been wonderful. Concepts are easily understood because of the conversational way they taught. I always recommend Saxon to all my friends and new homeschool parents.

My daughter will be attending public high school this fall. (We have been homeschooling for five years.) The public high school does not have textbooks for math; they expect students to take good notes. I find this unacceptable. We have already completed Saxon Algebra 1, and my daughter was very successful with the student-directed language, explanations, examples, and practice material. We plan to use this and Saxon Advanced Math as reference texts for the topics covered in her math classes.
Tina S on Jul 22, 2020
I chose this because it is listed in Susan Wise Bauer's The Well Trained mind, for 10th grade math, and we used Algebra 1 last year.
Dale I on Jun 17, 2020
All 3 of my kids have used Saxon math books at various levels. The spiraled approach ensures content never goes away as it is constantly reviewed and there are numerous practice problems we choose to use for additional review. The homeschool kit includes tests with answer keys and a solution manual for the entire textbook of practice problems.
Courtney E on May 31, 2020
We have been happy with Saxon math for many years now with three children of different ages and math ability levels. It is thorough and repetitive to help the covered material stick with the student.

I spoke with a Saxon Math specialist and determined that this was the best fit for us. I like how they integrate geometry throughout their Algebra I, II, and Advanced Math books.
Kiersten B on Feb 19, 2020
I used this book when I was in school in the late 80s/ early 90s and gained a strong mathematical foundation that has served me well. After trying different things, we settled on this... and my oldest son has also done very well in high school and college (engineering major). Had we not misplaced our old copy, I wouldn't be ordering another set for my younger son- ha! :)

My daughter is in the process of wrapping up Saxon Alg.#1. The lessons do take awhile; I asked her if she wanted to switch to another curriculum. She said no. I asked her if she felt that Saxon was teaching her adequately. She said yes, that she felt that she had learned very well from Saxon Alg.#1. I'm going through it as well (while using Teaching Textbooks at the same time). It's helped me a lot. I now know more higher math than I ever learned in public school in the 70's. Love RRC prices! TY

Is the textbook a hardcover edition?

BEST ANSWER: My package came with a hardcover textbook. You may want to confirm with RR that a hard cover textbook is still what’s in the homeschool package.

Saxon is outstanding
My 14 year old son loves Saxon. He’s is on the last few lessons of Algebra 1, having completed Saxon from the 4th grade texts. Algebra 2 looks challenging from my perspective, but he’s looking forward to it. Given the culture and poor to demented public schools, I encourage everyone to homeschool! You can do it! The resources for homeschooling are outstanding!

Saxon Algebra 2
This is our fifth year of using Saxon. My daughter likes the incremental spiral; it's really helpful for keeping concepts fresh in the student's mind.
She usually spends about 75-90 minutes on Algebra daily. I did give her the option to go with another curriculum for 10th grade, after using Saxon Algebra 1 for ninth, but she decided to stick with Saxon. She stated the lessons do take some time, but that she learns so much from the materials.
I really like that RRC offers the Homeschool Kit that comes with the solutions manual; the SM is a lifesaver. In this Algebra 2 curriculum, there are 129 lessons and 32 tests. So you're definitely set up for 161 days of mathematics. We have used other math curricula in the past that were mastery based, but I came to the conclusion that my student needed spiral.
I love knowing that we're all setup with the Student book, the Homeschool Testing Book (inside are the Test Forms & Test Solutions), a 370-page Solutions Manual, and an Answer Key that houses all answers for all 129 lessons and the Practice Sets.
Hope everyone has a great school year!

Prepares your student for math in Sat testing and Ccllege
We have used and currently still use Saxon Math from Kindergarten through Algebra II with our children. We contemplated using one of the new popular maths, but after comparing, we choose to continue with Saxon. Yes there is a lot of problems for the student to work in each lesson but the review is so valuable to help students to master the concepts being taught and to teach them important problem solving skills. In years past, we tried doing 1/2 of the problem set in each lesson in order to cut down on how much time the children was spending in doing math each day, but found that the children weren't mastering the concepts. We do math 5 days a week in the morning and average time to read through lesson, do practice set, and then all problems in problem set is 1hr to 2 hrs per student depending on the level of Saxon they are in. This might seem like a lot but we have found it necessary to help prepare out students for the future. Note: We use the Dive DVD's to help teach the lessons. They have been extremely helpful.

Great math book
This is a great curriculum for students who benefit from repetition. It covers continuing algebraic concepts as well as a large portion of geometry. It's well written and the problems are explained thoroughly . Also the tests and solutions manual are user friendly.
