Product Description:
This workbook includes fun exercises with amusing illustrations to reinforce important skills on every page! Although most of the book is devoted to language exercises with letters and sounds, phonics, vocabulary, and high-frequency words, a smaller section at the back of the book touches on math concepts as well as listening, speaking, and creating skills. An answer key is also found at the back of the book. Workbook exercises begin by introducing digraphs such as “ai”, “ee”, and “oo”, each on a 2-page spread with a QR code to hear the sound. Several words containing the digraph are used in a sentence alongside a funny picture illustrating it. Students do tracing, writing and matching, and other decoding exercises to reinforce concepts. Basic phonics rules are taught to help students with reading and spelling such as “Adding e at the end of a word can turn a short vowel into a long vowel”, etc. Covers a broad range of language skills, including parts of speech, sentence types, synonyms/antonyms, etc., to strengthen a first-grader’s overall understanding of the English language. Publisher Description:
Mrs. Wordsmith is an award-winning company who believes that educational resources should be just as thrilling as the movies and games that kids play! Together with Hollywood artists, game designers, teachers, and other experts, they created a product to captivate and engage children, while accelerating their reading skills. Advertised as being “the silliest learning company” … and I think they live up to it! Each learning product features their trademark gang of goofy animal characters in outlandish situations, causing kids to giggle and engage so that they learn and remember. The same characters are used in all the books but are depicted as children in lower-level books (PK-2) while the higher-level books (3-6) show them grown-up. The exaggerated characters and illustrations bring a chuckle, but some parents may appreciate knowing that one character, Bearnice, typically features a crop top and low riding pants that don’t always fit her very well in the older level books. Several of Mrs. Wordsmith’s products use QR codes that kids can scan to hear proper pronunciation of sounds or words.
These materials cover both writing and grammar, but they are more supplemental in scope.
