Product Description:

Adds Inn and Cathedral tiles. Inns score 2 points per road segment when completed, while cathedrals score an additional point for each tile and shield when completed. Also adds “Big Followers” which count as 2 followers for achieving majority control.

An incomplete feature that uses an inn or cathedral scores no points at the end of the game.

Clever follower placement is a hallmark ofCarcassonne, andInns & Cathedralsadds another layer to this with the large meeple follower type. Worth two normal followers, large meeples help you secure features and keep their points to yourself.On top of new gameplay twists,Inns & Cathedralsincludes components for a sixth player to join in the fun, and Points tiles to help everyone keep score. If you complete a lap of the scoreboard, take a Points tile worth fifty points. If you make it around again, flip your Points tile to the side worth 100 points. At the end of the game, simply add this amountto the total of your meeple on the scoring track.

Revisit the medieval city of Carcassonne, France in this land development game. Players attempt to strategically place a randomly drawn land tile in such a way as to fashion a city, road, cloister or field. Each player has 7 followers that can act as knight, thief, monk, or farmer, depending on their placement. Larger roads and cities score more points when completed, and multiple players can share in the scoring of a multi-tile completed project. This is definitely a thinking game and will take playing a few times to get the strategy down. Games take about 45 minutes. 2-5 players.

I appreciate the extra tiles and the increased points with the Cathedral cards which makes for more fun when an opponent tries to expand the cathedral in the hopes of causing the cathedral to lose all its points.

It's the expansion set that adds a 6th player, plus the big meeple. Also, the inn and cathedral options add a fun twist to the game. And I get more tiles for extending the game a bit.

What version of the base game is this expansion for; 2012 or 2014? (Because the artwork and piece sizes might not be relevant/ similar)

BEST ANSWER: The production date of this expansion is 2015 so I presume it will work with the 2014 edition. The supplier's website also indicates it will work with the 2016 edition which is the current edition. I do not know and was not able to find out about the 2012 edition.

Inns and Cathedrals
Absolutely great. An essential if you enjoy Carcassonne! Also bought a Traders and Builders. Haven’t gotten to that yet, enjoying Inns and Cathedrals does much. If you don’t have it buy It. I would buy from RRC since my son bought it on Amazon. It says ZMan on the box, but it’s a knockoff and the roads don’t line up. Be careful.
