Category Description for Prima Latina (Gr. K-3):

This course is aimed towards young Latin scholars. Designed to precede Latina Christiana I, it introduces students to beginning Latin. 25 lessons cover seven parts of speech, two tenses, 125 vocabulary words, numbers 1 through 10, basic constellations, and introductions to conjugations, declensions and derivatives. The lessons are broken down into grammar skills, five vocabulary words, a practical Latin phrase, and a line of prayer that is completely learned by the end of the chapter. Also included are five review lessons, five tests, and an appendix and answer key. The CD (available in hard copy or streaming) includes an introduction, pronunciation guide, prayer instructions, the sanctus, the doxology, the table blessing, the pater noster, and pronunciation helps for the lessons. We offer the pieces separately, or in sets for convenience. The Text Set includes the Student Book, Teacher Manual, and CD while the Complete Set also includes the Flashcards (designed to be used with both Prima Latina and Latina Christiana I) and DVDs.

A coop that we were going to use used this with the Prima Latina Copybook and I thought it would be great for my younger ones to listen to during their handwriting course.

I have previously used this program with my own children. Now helping to school grandchild I had bought the student and teacher book for the early Latin, but alas, the CD was missing. Was on Amazon and found the price too high for just the CD. I found a much better price here at Rainbow. I have used them in the past, but had forgotten about what a great resource they are. I have quite a few grands thus far, and most will be home schooled, so I'll be a returning customer for sure.

Not very impressed with the CD. I thought it would help me since I have never taken Latin. I felt like some of the pronunciations on the CD contradicted the rules taught in the book. As a result, we have only used the CD a few times. Love the student book though.

My daughter(9) was excited about Latin at first but all the memorization of vocabulary without being able to put any of it together for sentences frustrated her Using the DVDs made the my teacher prep virtually obsolete The CD was really a waste of time and money Cheryl Lowe's voice is a bit droning and the CD does not allow for skipping to a particular track (and we tried every CD player in the house)so I would turn the CD on low and play it while we were reviewing hoping that I would remember to stop the CD when it got to the track that I needed Finally we just stopped using it

I agree that this is a well-organized appealingly accessible Latin program My only complaint is the pronunciation on the cd/DVD The speaker has a twangy American accent The vowels slide around and the "r" is broad If you can speak fair Spanish or Italian you'll pronounce Latin better than this speaker This is not the difference between speaking ecclesiastical or classical Latin It's the difference between having a speaker who can consistently handle foreign pronunciation and one who can't Yes you can argue that it's not a living language and it doesn't matter how it's pronounced but if you're going to be singing church music or EVER quoting Latin (law school? medical school?) this accent will just sound silly I can't imagine why Memoria didn't get a better speaker For vocabulary and grammar alone however this is a good method
