Category Description for Draw Then Write:

These reproducible books each provide 23 fun drawing activities. Students draw animals, people, vehicles, and more, and then they write about what they've drawn. To assist students in drawing, sketches are included which show step-by-step how to draw the simple pictures. In the first book, students mostly answer simple questions about what they've drawn or fill in sentences using a word bank. In the advanced book, students are urged to write paragraphs about what they have drawn, using a topic sentence and plenty of supporting detail. Spark creativity by combining art and creative writing and watch those pencils fly. 96 pgs.~ Rachel

In my son's 1st grade class they are writing books, but my son isn't ready to write. He still doesn't know how to spell his last name. I'm hoping to supplement his education with this book.

This book looks like a simple introduction to writing sentences that takes a child step by step creatively through composing a subject and predicate. Then it gives them an opportunity to write the basic sentence using a capital letter and end punctuation.

I feel like this is nice and easy, yet gives a challenge and some simple questions which will help set my daughter up for sentence writing. She loves to draw, so between writing and drawing I feel like this is a good match!

My daughter loves to draw and write stories. This is a great combination of both. She will enjoy it.

I was searching for a summer enrichment writing activity for my now 1st and 2nd grade sons. The simple, step by step drawing activities look as though they will help with pencil control and add an element of fun. The very simple writing prompts of "what, when, where, and why," along with word bank ideas are a great guide for emergent writers.

This book has been a sanity-saver in our household My first grader would rather doodle than write and when I tried to force her to she'd put down phrases like "I hate work" I purchased this book in desperation and it turned out to be one of my favorite language arts products Since the format of the book doesn't depend on chronological order my child can choose to draw then write about any subject from monkeys to helicopters without me having to worry about keeping her on track Each subject in the book has three one-page levels beginning with fill-in-the-word then working up to writing simple sentences (by answering who/what/why/when style questions) Once the child is comfortable with sentences they move up to guided paragraphs It is worth its weight in gold for reluctant writers

INCREDIBLE Originally I purchased to help with motor skills & writing but it has become so much more--art writing motor skills creativity and ENJOYMENT!!!Child learns to draw something with 3 easy steps then they fill-in the blanks (or phrase then sentences by 3rd page) My child loves it It is so funny to catch my child sneaking into the book after schoolwork is done during free time to peek at the next picture and draw it on her own I would highly suggest buying this even if you have a great artist or writer Neat little portrait of artwork and writing sample as it progresses
