Publisher Description:

What fun! An incredibly rich smorgasbord of books has been written for children on the topic of American history! And youngsters are so anxious to meet Pocahontas and the Pilgrims, cowboys and Indians, George Washington and Daniel Boone! Yet, children of this age seek the meaning of American history too. Usually, they are just presented with a few famous people and events, but TruthQuest History includes commentary which subtly presents the thread of God's hand in American history in a much deeper and broader exploration of our past.

Category Description for TruthQuest History:

On occasion you might hear someone define history as the struggle between the haves and the have-nots. As Christians living in a secular society, it is often easy to imbibe false ideas. This history curriculum won't let you have that kind of false idea for long. Instead, you will come to understand the true (i.e. Biblical) definition of history. For example, in your study of Ancient Rome, you will see how the beliefs which nations/individuals hold about God and man can affect the course of history, culture, government etc. This history curriculum is not dependant on specific books since the goal is not to guide students through books, but to guide them through history. Many, many books are recommended since the guide provides very little text (just basic summaries); however, the beauty is that students can pick whichever ones appeal to them or are readily available. No more searching for those impossible to find required readers! As you work your way through the books, you will be challenged to think about some things, to research others, and complete ThinkWrite sections at the back of the book. These sections are designed for students in grades 5-12. Responses to the ThinkWrite sections can be done in a variety of ways including skits, diaries, news reports, models, projects, drawings, and essays.

A new study in this series combines Creation and the Old Testament with the study of Ancients and Egypt. This book follows the same format as the other studies in this series allowing you to choose the reading and resources. The Bible is the ultimate authority on history, but the author suggests some other spines that may be referenced throughout the study - Child's Story Bibleby Catherine Vos, Genesis: A commentary for Childrenby Nancy Ganz, Story of the Ancient World by C. Miller & H.A. Guerber, Book of the Ancient Worldby Dorothy Mills, Streams of Civilization Vol. 1, Genesis: Finding Our Roots by Ruth Beechick, and Greenleaf Guide to the Old Testament. These books aren't required, but are helpful resources if you want to read more on the topics. May your study of history become a study of His Story. ~ Genevieve / Donna

I was looking for a literature based American history curriculum for my 5th grader, and love that this has a Biblical worldview. With all the book options, I'll be able to teach my 5th and 2nd grader together, using a variety of different level books.

I'm excited for us to start learning US history by reading books about the people and events in our history.

This looks like a wonderful way to get a feeling of history through all the events and people at a certain time. Covers history, science, music, art, and people. Looks to be a good introduction to a lot without being overwhelming.

Looking from a God centered perspective on American history.

This is a new curriculum for me to use. I like the Christian worldview, exhaustive content, and reasonable price. I will use it to purchase books to supplement or round out the next years study of American History.

The other reviews have pretty much said it all I just wanted to add that this history curriculum is the one that my son and I look back on with the fondest memories We both LOVED it! I bought a different curriculum this year (the grass is always greener) but can't wait to switch back to Truthquest next year This is one purchase you WON'T regret!

We used all three of the American History for Young Students books this past year We are schooling children between the ages of 5 and 12 and every one of them enjoyed the reading and were able to understand the material Teacher preparation included reading ahead getting project materials ready and finding books to read together You pretty much have to have the Light and Glory for children series to use this program We used the program with auditory visual and tactile learners because of the reading discussion art projects we did and other hands on projects It is necessary to have access to lots of books to supplement with and to have plenty of reading time I loved the Christian worldview of this program and the candid clear way it explains history I have already ordered the other TruthQuest books to continue on our journey through history However I plan to use Diana Waring's What in the World's going on Here CD's in combination with this program I would recommend it for any family who likes living books and spending time sharing stories and ideas with each other

Are you looking for an exciting and God-centered approach to HiStory? No that is not a typo Michelle Miller has written just such a book Her premise is that history is His (God's) Story How we approach HiStory is critical in order to understand it We must ask the Big 2 Questions as we study: Who is God? and Who then is mankind? Michelle makes this easy with her commentary and endless list of books Don't settle for dry sketchy textbooks when you can offer a smorgasboard of living books to engage your children's appetite for more Mrs Miller has divided her books into main topics with lists of fiction biographies videos and activity books for the hands-on learner Each main topic includes her commentary before diving into a "yummy" diet of literature You will not find twaddle here either Each book has been carefully chosen and will sometimes have a description We were able to find many of the books at our public library thus saving expense there For those we could not find we used one of the suggested "spines" listed Often notebook pages were done with a picture and narration of an event or person and added to our History notebook We also included maps and pictures of crafts or field trips The author also includes six Think Write activities interspersed throughout the guide They help the student to think then write Biblical answers to issues of a historical time period Sample answers are included in the appendix You as the parent are in control of how quickly you cover the topics and how in depth you decide to go not the curriculum Skip over the topics you have spent longer amounts of time on in previous studies and dig in to those that capture your children's enthusiasm for HiStory We have enjoyed the rich selection of literature in our own family making history exciting and memorable
