Product Description:

Linking set is similar to blue set above, but constructed to link together within type of block. That is - flats link to flats (adding 100's), rods link to rods (adding tens) and units link to units (adding ones) but units DO NOT link to rods or flats nor do rods and flats link with each other. Set is blue and contains 100 unit cubes, 30 rods, 10 flats and 1 decimeter cube. Teacher guide included.
Category Description for Interlocking Base 10 Blocks/Cubes:

This linking set is similar to blue set above

This linking set is similar to blue set above, but blocks are constructed to link together top to bottom (like LEGOs). This allows students to actually build models of numbers, giving them a real "feel" for base ten concepts. Not just for place value, interlocking blocks also can be used to model addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, decimals, and percents. The Starter Set is blue and contains 100 unit cubes, 30 rods, 10 flats, 1 decimeter cube and a teacher's manual. The manual includes teaching ideas for several different math concepts. Individual pieces can be ordered seperately.

I like that these pieces interlock to make it easier to explain how smaller units can be combined to make larger groups. The price for this item on this site is much better than elsewhere.

Curious to see if these base ten interlocking cubes work better, or as well, as unifix cubes when laying foundation for base ten understanding.

Some students need the visual that a ten is made up of ten ones.

I barrowed these from a friend to help my son with his math. I was amazed all the different areas these could be used for. The ones could also be used for perimeter, area and volume. I now want my own for my younger children.

Are these 1 cm cubes (for the units?)
Cary Beth on Sep 20, 2020
BEST ANSWER: Yes they are. I just measured mine because I have them out. This question came at a funny time. I was literally just telling my husband how glad I am to have these to use with our fourth child. I always wished I had them with the other three. They are so helpful for teaching place value and helps visualize what happens when you add numbers like 495 +6.
Do these link to each other, units to rods/flats/cube etc?
A shopper on Jul 28, 2020
BEST ANSWER: ones connect to ones, ten rods can connect to ten rods, 100s connect to 100s. You could maybe stack 10 rods to 100s, but you'd probably not want to if the point is seeing numbers visually.
