Product Description:

A two-map expansion, Japan and Italy are hauling something new down the tracks. Japan has “bullet train” routes along the map which all players can contribute to. Once a bullet train route is built, it becomes a communal route that any player can use to fulfill tickets. Don’t expect to just sit back and benefit from someone else’s hard work, though: at game end, players who built the most bullet train routes will receive extra points, whereas those who built the fewest (or none at all!) will lose points. Additionally, the Japanese map has separate subway station maps for Tokyo and Kyushu. Some tickets require connecting from a subway to a main map city, requiring players to think of connections on two planes. On the flipside, the Italian map has zones to build to that are outside of the main isle and, once reached, are a dead end - even if you have two tickets that end in the same zone, your routes will not be connected. There are also 17 “regions” on the Italian map, and at game end, the number of regions you connect will score you bonus points. While not “new”, ferry routes are present on the Italian map, and there are special ferry tickets players can use to complete ferry routes. A base game of Ticket to Ride (aka, Europe, U.S., etc.) is needed to play this expansion. For 2-5 players. Each map plays in about 30-60 minutes. Expansion includes double-sided map board of Japan and Italy, tickets specific to each map, 16 miniature bullet train markers, 3 progression markers, 10 ferry cards, and rules for each map. ~ Janine

Publisher Description:

Zoom across Japan in a bullet train admiring Mount Fuji through the mist or take the Tokyo subway to your final destination. On this map, you face a dilemma between investing in the Bullet Train network, routes that can be used by all players to complete Destination Tickets, or focusing on your individual tracks. Weigh your options carefully because the players who contribute the most to this shared project will be rewarded with a larger bonus...and players who don’t build any Bullet Trains will suffer the consequences!

This Ticket to Ride© expansion also includes the Italy map which is focused on the Regions in this country and on a brand new type of Ferry Route. Connect cities from all Regions in the same network to score extra points.

Category Description for Ticket to Ride:

This game has become one of our family favorites. 2 to 5 players draw tickets to connect rail routes between major cities and attempt to complete them in the most direct route possible. Routes are built in sections of 1 to 6 railcars based on playing cards of the designated color for the section. Longer routes and longer sections score more points than shorter ones. Since routes can have sections that overlap, competition for certain segments adds to the excitement. Strategy is not too complicated, so that younger players are not at a disadvantage. Games take from 45 to 75 minutes, depending on the number of players. The basic game is based on North American geography, while TTR Europe has slightly different rules and covers Europe and eastern Asia. TTR USA 1910 is an expansion that allows 3 more variations of the basic TTR game. Ticket to Ride Expansions (3-AD) (ages 8+) Across the exotic lands of Asia, from Africa, to Germany, and all the way to the Northern face of Europe, the rumble of locomotives can be heard around the world. Explore wildly different locations and circumstances around the globe as you expand your train lines in these new Ticket to Ride editions. The gameplay is similar to the original Ticket to Ride, but each map has its own challenges to overcome, including mountains, valleys, ferries, rough terrain, tolls, and other unique regional challenges. Despite the varying climates, treacherous landscapes, and locational nuances, your goal is the same. Create the best route, collect the most valuable tickets, and connect cities to beat your competition! Games listed as Expansions require Ticket to Ride or Ticket to Ride Europe to play. Other editions are stand-alone and require no other Ticket to Ride games to play. Games last roughly 30-60 minutes.Happy travels!

These are two of only a few maps you can't play on the Steam version of the game. My parents like to keep games at their house, so it will make a good gift.

2 Great Maps to Add to Your Collection!
Both maps are very fun! The collaboration towards the Bullet Train production on the Japan map creates a new level of ticket to ride that hasn't been seem before. The Italy map includes an interesting set up for ferries/boats along with connecting countries which is similar to Rails & Sails mixed with some Europe maps.

Great Addition to the Ticket to Ride Game!
If you enjoy Ticket to Ride (the American or European edition), you'll love the Japan and Italy expansion! I wish it came as an independent game, but fun nonetheless.
