Publisher's Description of Patrol Torpedo Boat PT-109 - 3726 pieces (World War II Historical Collection)

The American PT-109 Patrol Boat is the largest and most detailed model in the history of COBI! The set includes 13 figures inspired by the famous ship captain and his brave crew. The record-breaking 3,726 blocks made it possible to realistically recreate the historical unit in 1:35 scale model (scale suitable for the figures). The model measures 72 cm in length and includes a beautiful stand. The patrol boat also surprises with its fully reproduced interior! After the deck is easily removed, the crew quarters, technical rooms and the engine room with their equipment are visible. The set features durable pad printed decorations. Movable elements of equipment, a removable deck, mapped weapons and a realistic shape make this model an exclusive gift that will satisfy not only history and military enthusiasts, but also all enthusiasts of construction blocks and picky collectors. It is impossible to pass by such a huge model! Build a story, block by block!

The TORPEDO BOAT PT-109 patrol entered service in 1942 in the Pacific. On August 2, 1943, the Japanese destroyer Amagiri rammed the PT-109, causing the patrol boat to sink. In a crisis, the unit commander and the future president of the United States, John F. Kennedy, managed to save the entire crew. The actions taken made him a war hero! The patrol boat was manned by a crew of 12-17 people. The last mission was attended by 13 crew members headed by Captain Kennedy. The PT-109 was powered by three 1500hp (1100kW) Packard 12-cylinder gasoline engines. The speed of the boat was approximately 41 knots (76 km / h). The PT-109 had a single 20mm Oerlikon anti-aircraft gun at the rear. On the eve of their last mission, the crew installed a 37mm anti-tank gun in the bow. The main offensive weapon of the boat was her torpedoes. PT-109 was equipped with four 21-inch (53 cm) torpedo tubes containing Mark 8 torpedoes. It was also equipped with two depth charges and double-coupled heavy machine guns.
