For those of you who want to learn to play the piano but don't want simplistic beginning books, the adult piano course is for older beginners. Though titled an adult course, it would work for junior high or high schoolers also. Level 1 starts right at the beginning, finding notes and introducing hand positions. Like the Complete Basic Course levels, this series also introduces the chords earlier, enabling even beginners to play songs with chords rather than single note melodies. This series shares a number of songs with the Basic Course, but it moves a little faster, is not illustrated, and teaches in less simplistic terms. The Level 1 Lesson book is also now available with a DVD which features an introduction to the pages of the book, plus performances of all of the pieces by author and piano teacher Gayle Kowalchyk. Please note that there are supplementary books available for the course (Theory, Solo, FingerAerobics, etc.) although we do not offer them. I LOVE this book! I recently started taking lessons as an adult and this is the book my teacher recommended It is such a great book for the beginning learner It moves at a good pace I feel like I am learning a lot even though I am not through the whole book yet Concepts are clearly explained It is basic without making you feel dumb This book is also easy enough (and explanatory enough) to use on your own I highly recommend this book for learning how to play piano You also cannot beat the price!!

After taking piano lessons for three years spending a considerable sum for the teachers time/expertise while utilizing the "lastest teaching method" which I did not care for I almost gave up playing the piano completely However one day I was looking through a homeschooling catalog when I noticed the "Alfred's Basic Adult Piano Course" I liked the review I read of the product and decided to order it What did I have to loose? I sat down at the piano the very next week with my lesson book after playing through several of the lessons I was hooked! Alfred's course takes you back to the fundamental basics of music and piano After all if you don't learn the basics you are lost The lesson book I ordered came with a CD which has been very helpful in doing the lessons Alfred produces other books to round out the series: finger aerobics theory sacred christmas and greatest hits music This program is great for those who love independant study or are limited in the amount of time/money they can spend on piano lessons Alfred also produces a series for children in a kid friendly format Music for Little Mozart's Alfred's Prep Course and Alfred's Basic Piano Course Alfred makes music fun for everyone!
