Publisher Description:

The Transitional work text is designed to facilitate a gradual shift from manuscript to cursive handwriting over the course of the school year. At the discretion of the instructor, students may review manuscript for as many as 29 weeks, or they may transition earlier in the year and focus on learning and practicing cursive letters for up to 36 weeks.

Contents of the Transitional student work text include:

  • 10 practice lessons reviewing manuscript letter formation,
  • 27 weekly lessons in manuscript,
  • 45 practice lessons introducing cursive letter formation,
  • 27 weekly lessons in cursive,

Lessons provide 10-15 minutes of daily practice.

On days 1 - 3 of weekly lessons, students write letters and words from the week's Scripture verse. On day 4, students trace over the entire verse as written in the work text. On the final day, students select a Border Sheet from the back of the book, and write the week's Scripture verse in their best handwriting, then use their creativity to color the design on their Border Sheet.

An appealing, full-color Christian handwriting program that provides instruction and practice in handwriting (traditional style) with about 30 lessons per level (except for K which has 49). Each level has a letter designation, with a whole book for transition from manuscript to cursive in between B and C. The Transition book contains content from both Book B (print) and Book C (cursive) and you can use in place of either Book B or Book C, depending on your student's needs (see PDF sample for more information on using the Transition Book). Starting in Book C, all handwriting is cursive. In the more advanced levels, discussion questions accompany the weekly Bible verse. One more change to note is the height of the lines; they are smaller in the cursive section of the Transition Book or Book C (3/8") than in the previous books (manuscript books have 5/8" lines). The manuscript and cursive border sheets are also revised, and are now included with the workbooks. These nicely bordered lined papers challenge students to write their scripture verses on them "in their best handwriting." (Scripture verses are taken from the Living Bible.) The student desk card shows manuscript and cursive letters on a personal-sized card, or you can put the big letters up on the wall using the alphabet wall sheets. This is a great program that allows kids to practice both print and cursive. I love that the days assignments are manageable (not too long) but offer meaningful practice. In addition, it isn't just meaningless rows of letters and random words, but it's actually with a purpose: scripture! It makes the practice more interesting.

Supplement for my 4th grader, who has been using BJU Press handwriting for 4 years but his manuscript and cursive just need extra work. I like that it combines both together in one and the book it also doesn't say "grade 2-3" on the book just "T" so he won't complain that he is 'too old of the book'.

BEST ANSWER: I have used "A Reason for Handwriting" for all 5 of my children and have never bought the teacher guide. I have been very satisfied with the results of just using the student worktext.

Very happy
Bought this for my daughter who loves it. Minimal supervision on part required, which makes me happy. Days 1-3 are pretty light so definitely best for those who need minimal manuscript letter formation review.

I like that you can have them practice both types of writing, and that the kids can just open and do it without me. Handwriting has improved with using cursive.

Great transition
My son has been asking to learn cursive and this workbook is a great place to start. There are enough lessons to take up a whole year, but we are only using the cursive part and it is working for us as we are also using level B for printing practice.

I am very pleased with this workbook. Its a short amount each day so my kids don't get overwhelmed. I love how they can write the entire memory verse and color the outside edges is the design in the page so to make a gift for someone.

Easy Cursive Transition
Son wanted to learn cursive and I like the traditional look of the cursive A reason for Handwriting had. It's a gentle approach- first reviewing all the print letters, then introducing the cursive letters. My son likes it!

Not just for little ones I'm having my 3rd 4th 5th & 6th graders all do the T book this year As a former school teacher I was upset when handwriting was cut from the curriculum :( We just began homeschooling this year and my kids have never had much instruction on proper formations I like how the T book reviews manuscript AND introduces cursive with plenty of practice for both The daily segments take maybe 15 minutes and they like sending the final pretty verse page to relatives/friends on Friday I LOVE these books Highly recommend

We used the Transition book with our daughter last year in the second grade and have been with this program for two years It is a wonderful handwriting program for so many reasons Our children love finishing the week with a completed Bible verse on a coloring page they get to decorate They try harder to write well because they know we will display their work The book also encourages them to give these pages with Bible verses to family and friends (Yeah!) The transition to cursive in this book was great Their writing is much improved since starting this program and it is very easy to teach

I am currently using this with my 3rd grader We completely skipped the first section of the book where they review print I love the Bible verses etc I never use the Teachers Manual I originally chose this cursive program because I liked the fact that they include the print letter so that the child can learn the matching cursive letters
