A Reason for Handwriting Level B Student Worktext begins with 10 lessons reviewing manuscript letter formation. After completing the review, the work text proceeds to 30 weekly lessons, which each provide 10-15 minutes of daily practice. On days 1 - 3, your child will write letters and words from the week's Scripture verse. On day 4, she will transcribe the entire verse on a piece of practice paper. On the final day, she'll select a Border Sheet from the back of the book, and write the week's Scripture verse in her best handwriting, then use her creativity to color the design on the Border Sheet.

Note: The weekly verse in A Reason For Handwriting Level B corresponds with the same week's theme verse in A Reason For Spelling Level B, thus reinforcing the Scripture content of each lesson.

An appealing, full-color Christian handwriting program that provides instruction and practice in handwriting (traditional style) with about 30 lessons per level (except for K which has 49). Each level has a letter designation, with a whole book for transition from manuscript to cursive in between B and C. The Transition book contains content from both Book B (print) and Book C (cursive) and you can use in place of either Book B or Book C, depending on your student's needs (see PDF sample for more information on using the Transition Book). Starting in Book C, all handwriting is cursive. In the more advanced levels, discussion questions accompany the weekly Bible verse. One more change to note is the height of the lines; they are smaller in the cursive section of the Transition Book or Book C (3/8") than in the previous books (manuscript books have 5/8" lines). The manuscript and cursive border sheets are also revised, and are now included with the workbooks. These nicely bordered lined papers challenge students to write their scripture verses on them "in their best handwriting." (Scripture verses are taken from the Living Bible.) The student desk card shows manuscript and cursive letters on a personal-sized card, or you can put the big letters up on the wall using the alphabet wall sheets. The curriculum my school uses does not do manuscript writing in 2nd grade and most of my students still need to work on letter formation before launching into cursive. I like that we have a Scripture a week that we can have a daily conversation about - God's Word is always beneficial!

This is a good printing review book for 2nd graders. My current curriculum only has cursive for 2nd grade and some students are not ready to start learning cursive until mid year 2nd grade, or beginning of 3rd grade. I love that there is a weekly scripture that we can talk about, apply for that week, and send home to minister to each child's family. I really love this book and have been using it with all my second graders since I first began teaching in 2001 !! :)

My kids love A Reason for Handwriting, plenty of extra practice sheets for the kid who keep forgetting how to write certain letters. I love it because it's open and go, you don't even need the teachers manual. we use it 4 days a week could be stretched to 5 and the last day of the week they get to pick a sheet to write their verse on and color.

Hoping for a Handwriting lessons win on with this book after having been in other recommended/popular programs. I really enjoyed reading the information and level placement plans. Having a reluctant and very hard left hander has always been a challenging and finding something that she will enjoy and is paced to develop her fine motor skills is important.

I love that my girls are practicing writing scripture when using this series. Both of my older girls started with Book A. My oldest is now on Book C & loves it. My middle child is on Book T and is excited to start learning cursive soon. I never have to ask them twice to work on their handwriting. The lessons are quick. The regular (but easy) practice really builds their skills. We get compliments all the time about their beautiful penmanship. I'll start my youngest out with Book A next year.

While we've enjoyed HWOT for penmanship, some of it was getting redundant with other subjects since it exercises more than just handwriting skills, so I decided to switch to ARFH. It's what my older student has already been using, too.

A great Christian curriculum that gives your scholar lessons and practice on their penmanship. My kids enjoy it and enjoy the coloring pages with the scripture. They enjoy sending them to their grandparents.

We have been using books 2 & 5 in our homeschool this year. They have quickly improved the handwriting of both of my children without a huge weekly time commitment. My son’s cursive is absolutely beautiful but his manuscript needs some improvement. I purchased the book 2 because it is the final manuscript-only book in the series.

I like the layout of this curriculum. It gives a few days of practicing letters and words and then a copywork day. If your student is doing well with handwriting, they can do/write more. On copywork days, they can trace as an early learner or copy on the provided sheets!

Line size. I have a child using K. Wondering if the line size changes in book A? Hoping for a smaller sized line.

BEST ANSWER: Yes! The lines for levels A and B are smaller than for level K. The writing will be done with the page turned portrait orientation rather than landscape. The lines will get even smaller with cursive in levels T and up.

BEST ANSWER: I would start with book A. I have one child in Kindergarten, second, and third grade. We have used A reason for Handwriting from Kindergarten. They seem to be right on for each level. With K being basic learning and practicing of letters and then in book A the child review writing letters and then words and verses. My second grader is finishing up book B in a few more weeks and going to begin the transition book in the Fall.

We like it.
My family and I really like the Reason for Handwriting books. I like that it builds on the weekly scripture a little each day. I do also read the KJV scripture from our Bible to my child since the scriptures in A Reason for Handwriting are not KJV.

Reason for Handwriting B
The Reason for Handwriting series has been just what we needed for handwriting in our homeschool. Love the fact that it gives them scripture to copy. Truly a "reason for handwriting". My daughter is currently doing B student workbook, and she enjoys it. Also have a son doing another in the series. He doesn't eat up the handwriting quite like his sister:) but he doesn't complain about these books. It can easily be tailored to the needs of the student. I definitely recommend it.

Effective
We have always used the italic handwriting. It has worked very well through many children. I purchased this for my 7 yr. old. She is left handed and is having trouble deciding which way to form her letters. So far this seems to be helping. I like the pages in the back for her best work. She likes that too. It gives us a completed project to show her writing lesson. Only thing better would be to have it be less costly and use some KJV verses.

Quick little segments to use each day
I like that this book doesn't add too much time to our homeschool routine. I also love that each week the children are asked to write a note to someone!
