STEM Labs: Alternative Energy Workbook
Building upon the foundation of energy, types of energy, and the early history of energy development, this interactive activity book teaches students about different aspects of this field including wind, solar, tidal, biomass, geothermal, hydro power, and nuclear energy. Activities vary from reading and comprehension, graphing and documenting, as well as hands-on labs. Most activities use items that may be found locally, although on rare occasions, more specific lab supplies are necessary. Some of these supplies include, for example, a test-tube, graduated cylinder, laboratory balance, etc. Safety goggles are recommended for several labs.
The Mark Twain STEM Labs: Alternative Energy Workbook for grades 5–8+ provides teachers, parents, and students with the resources to explore the potential of renewable energy sources while using the scientific method. These fun and meaningful mini labs and inquiry labs challenge students to apply scientific inquiry, content knowledge, and technological design to solve real-world problems. The units are designed to cultivate an interest in the STEM fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics, while learning about alternative energy sources. Topics covered are energy, energy sources, electricity, wind energy, solar energy, ocean energy, biomass energy, geothermal energy, hydro energy, and nuclear energy.
Reinforce your science curriculum and introduce topics in the areas of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. The hands-on activities in these books require research, teamwork, creativity in design, and opportunities to think on the processes used. Each book includes handouts and 26 interactive activities (labs) that are reproducible for the purchaser. Each activity (lab) includes a teacher information page and a student challenge. Each challenge includes vocabulary, materials needed, requirements, and steps to follow. A rubric is included to help you grade the student challenges, and activities are aligned to current standards. Have more fun with your science curriculum by adding more hands-on activities. ~ Donna
