Category Description for Elementary Algebra (Jacobs):

Now published by Master Books, Harold Jacobs' Elementary Algebra is the same thorough algebra course it has always been. This course is the equivalent of Algebra 1 and covers the basic algebraic concepts from a review of operations and functions through quadratic equations and number sequences. The chapters are Fundamental Operations, Functions and Graphs, Integers, Rational Numbers, Equations in One Variable, Equations in Two Variables, Simultaneous Equations, Exponents, Polynomials, Factoring, Fractions, Square Roots, Quadratic Equations, Real Numbers, Fractional Equations, Inequalities and Number Sentences this is the same chapter sequence as found in the previous edition of this text. A midterm and final review are included in the text as well.

Master Books assures us that there have been no changes in content even the problems in the exercises have remained the same. If you are familiar with the older text, one thing you will miss is some of the cartoons; however, some were kept in the text to add to the readabilityand a bit of humor never hurts. Although Master Books is a Christian company, this text doesn't proselytize there is no Christian content.

Lessons in the Student Textbook begin with concepts, and Mr. Jacobs makes sure you understand the why' before tackling the how.' The text's thorough explanation bite-size amounts of information make this a very popular program for understandability. There are still four sets of exercises in each lesson Set I reviews ideas from previous lessons for that continual review; Set II and Set III practice concepts taught in the lesson (Set III exercises are found in the teacher guide more on this in a bit); Set IV can be optional or be used for extra credit these offer challenge problems that go beyond the lesson. Answers to Set II exercises can be found in the back of the student book, which allows the student to self-grade, if you would like.

is this the solutions manual for the 1979 edition with a new cover? or solutions to a newer edition?
A shopper on Apr 12, 2019
BEST ANSWER: I found that all the problems/answers have been the same for the old edition (got thru chapter 11), although the page numbers don't align, but not impossible to figure out what chapter and lesson otherwise. There have been barely a few that were off by a number or perhaps had a typo in the answer, but otherwise all the same.
What is the difference between this book and the teacher's guide in regards to answers and solutions?
A shopper on Jul 19, 2017
BEST ANSWER: The Teacher's Guide has a copy of the set 3 exercises that is exactly like the Text book set 3 exercises for each lesson (pages 17-157). Not sure why, it seems like a waste to me. Then the Teacher's Guide also has the tests to give to the student (pages 161-306). Following the tests in the Teacher's Manual are the Answers for the tests (pages 309-the end of the book). The first few pages of the Teacher's Manual include daily lesson plans. The separate Solutions Manual has all of the solutions for each lesson in the Text Book, it does not include any test solutions. If you can find just a test booklet with the answer key for less than the Teacher's Manual I would recommend getting that over the Teacher's Manual if you don't need the daily lesson plans.
Does this have full solutions or only the answers?
A shopper on Mar 11, 2017
BEST ANSWER: It has just the answers for some problems, but most have solutions. For example, if the answer is 40 it will show [8(-13)+12squared=-104+144=40]. It doesn't explain "why", but I haven't needed anything more. I'm pretty mathy & we're only on ch. 6. FYI, I have the revised Master Books edition (which I believe is the same as the lizard cover) & am very happy with purchase. HTH!

A must have
I love Jacob's Algebra and this solution manual has not only the answers but shows the steps so we can see how the solution is reached.

I was a bit wary starting off But once we got to the middle I realized that my daughter was learning such a deeper understanding of the topic that her skills were impeccable She has told me she loves math again It just explains everything so well She is a 7th grader My 8th grader attends the public schools and is in an accelerated math program there so he is taking algebra The public school program just cannot shine a light to Jacobs so I am now using Jacobs to tutor him and bring his skills back up to speed He is doing OK at the school it is just that his skills are nowhere near what my daughter's are after being in Jacobs all year
