Publisher Description:

Who wouldn't enjoy writing that includes tongue twisters and limericks? Packed with down-to- earth lessons, it's easy to see why kids truly enjoy italic. Contains joins, vowel and consonant sounds, prefixes and suffixes. Cursive capitals are introduced with historical development of each letter. Illustrated. Letter height 6 & 5 mm.

Category Description for Italic Handwriting (Getty-Dubay):

Mom's horrible handwriting inspired us to use an italic handwriting program with our kids. It's difficult not to produce at least legible writing in Italics. Another plus is that manuscript flows into cursive - letters don't completely change, they just join. Not only does this seem sensible to us, but the many compliments the children have received on their handwriting have further encouraged us in this approach. (Children begin moving into cursive writing in Level C.) The last level gets into calligraphy toward the end. From there, follow up with a good calligraphy book for Jr. High/High School and continue handwriting as an art form! Instruction Manual applies to all levels.

These materials are specifically graded and include both instruction and practice.

I like this easy-for-teacher cursive curriculum. It is very practical cursive -- easier for my left-handed son and a good option in a time when many people skip cursive altogether.

Excellent books for learning nice neat handwriting in a way that makes more sense in the number of strokes you use and how the letters connect!
Rebekah F on Aug 20, 2020
I used this curriculum growing up. It was simple and fun. The transition from print to cursive was logical and flowed well. There are no extraneous loops or swirls. I have had many compliments over the years on the legibility of my writing, even when I am writing fast and sloppily (for me).

Going to try my upper elementary son on this handwriting curriculum. Cursive never stuck with his older brothers and so maybe we'll just do this instead of having to do remedial work later!

It took a few years and a few kids to convince me of the logic of italic handwriting, but I can see the difference in the quality of penmanship between the kids taught with this program and those without. I have even changed my own handwriting as a result.

Great for our reluctant fifth grader
Preferring to be outside playing, our fifth grader's handwriting had really got sloppy so I decided this year we needed to focus on it again! He does not enjoy writing so I have found this book to not be too heavy for him and he is quite eager to do a couple lines each day. Hoping that by the end his penmanship will be much improved!
