Category Description for Pathway Reading:

An Amish reading program which portrays a lifestyle in which people cherish Christian traits, and in which children gain insights into how to behave! Families are large and stories are centered around the family and farm. The stories are interesting to children if our kids are any indicator! One of my favorites is a story from First Steps in which little Rachel discovers, after attempting to help mother shell peas, that watching baby Miriam really is a good way to help mother with meal preparations!

Although many of our customers use the readers as a standalone, we carry the complete reading program, including teacher's manuals, workbooks, and tests or quizzes where available. Instruction is plain and effective, with minimalistic black and white illustrations, which makes this series affordable and user-friendly. Please note that the Teacher's Manuals are necessary for Before We Read, First Steps, and Learning Through Sounds 1 and 2.

Package content varies. Each package includes the Student Text, Student Workbook, and Workbook Teacher Manual. Where available, packages also include the Tests and Test Answer Sheet and/or Quizzes and Answer Sheet. While these tests and answers are not part of the original Amish reading program, they were created to meet the needs of homeschooling parents outside the Amish classroom. Flashcards are included in the Grade 1 package. See individual packages for more information. Consumables are not reproducible, so each student will need his/her own workbook, tests, and quizzes.

Packages include the student text, student workbook, teacher edition of the workbook, test, and the test answer sheet.

My daughter (almost 9) is dyslexic and it's been a nightmare to find her books she can read that she actually likes. For some reason she loves these stories that follow the same characters into new books in the series. These are the first books she has ever read completely on her own. She started with First Steps a few months ago and is now reading Busy Times and flying through the set. I'm very thankful I found Pathway Readers. Purchasing all of them through the eighth grade level.

I am homeschooling my 3rd grader this year, for the first time, and am using the Charlotte Mason curriculum. This book was on the recommended reading list and this site was the cheapest I could find it!

BEST ANSWER: These books are hardcover. I bought them for my children and they have really enjoyed them. My 10 yr old can read them herself but I read them aloud to the younger ones. Highly recommended, Godly stories!!
How many readers and workbook pairs should I buy for one year ?

BEST ANSWER: I would only do 2...3 at the absolute most. These are such sweet stories and my son loves them. I didn't want to make it a "chore" for him. Actually, I didn't require these at all, but he read one from a second hand sale and liked it so much that I bought the sets for him. Doing just 2 a year lets them read for enjoyment and not be overwhelmed with workbook pages. They learn more when they can enjoy and look forward to it.

I work on reading with my granddaughter. The Pathway Reading Series is wonderful. We have gone through Grade 1 and 2. We started New Friends in September. We have a system worked out where we do the workbook pages first then we read the story. Sometimes if the workbook has taken a longer time, I'll say, "You don't have to read the story today. We can read it tomorrow." She will say, 'No, no, I want to read it now." Before she reads the story she always puts her bookmark at the next story. She always wants to see what the next one is going to be.

Short Stories with a good message
I bought this for my son who is 14 years old and autistic. I wanted for him to work on his reading but reading an entire book isn't feasible. This book is great as the stories are short but they also have good messages to live by as well. I also got the companion workbook and teacher workbook. He's not able to do the work independently but he's still able to learn which is the most important thing. I recommend these highly.

We are on our third year of using the Pathway readers They have been very easy for me to use as a homeschooling parent For other curricula I haven't found the teacher's guide to be of help but with the Pathway guides even I am learning better grammar from using themFinancially speaking I think that these sets are an exceptional value with most of the readers under seven dollars and the workbooks and teacher's guides ranging from $2 to $4

These readers are amazing My daughter is interested in reading them and she is now reading fluently The stories are interesting and there are new words listed at the bottom of each page so that you can discuss them before a child tries to read them Also the companion workbook is great It reinforces spelling skills as well as reading comprehension This is an extremely well done set and I expect us to continue using it up through the last one
