Publisher Description:

Times Tales DVD is a creative, innovative mnemonic-based program that makes it fun and easy to memorize the upper multiplication facts. Times Tales uses cute, simple stories to provide students with a "memory peg", allowing them to quickly recall otherwise abstract facts. Add a Mini Flipbook. Your child can have their own 3 X 5" "mini-flip"! This child-sized version of the Times Tales flipchart is the perfect way for your child to review on their own. Plus, it's just plain fun to have!
Category Description for Times Tales:

Multiplication tables can be so difficult to learn. If a child can memorize or use a manipulative to learn their tables, there are plenty of products to help you out, but what about those children who are more visual/auditory? Times Tales DVD makes learning upper tables fun - and in a short amount of time.

Learning is done in two parts. Children are to listen and watch the stories in the first part of the DVD in order to master the facts being presented. After completing the steps in the first part of the DVD, they can then proceed to the second part. The second part of the DVD presents more stories that build on the stories in part 1. Children will learn 3x6, 3x7, 3x8, 3x9, 4x6, 4x7, 4x8, 4x9, 6x6, 6x7, 6x8, 6x9, 7x7, 7x8, 7x9, 8x8, 8x9, 9x9 with the creative mnemonics presented in the illustrations and stories in the DVD. When children recall the story, they will recall the fact. The characters in the stories are represented by number people - 3 is a butterfly, 4 is a chair, 6 is the children of the first grade class, 7 is Mrs. Week, 8 is Mrs. Snowman, and 9 is a tree house. The story then tells about a fact that is illustrated in the picture. For example, "Mrs. Week (7) went butterfly hunting. She captured 20 butterflies in her net and one landed on her head." The illustration is Mrs. Week (7) holding a butterfly net with 20 butterflies (3) in the net and 1 butterfly (3) on her head. The fact to learn is 3 x 7 = 21.

A CD-ROM is also included with the DVD. It includes written tests, flashcards, crossword puzzles, and a fun game all in pdf format.

If you want your child to have a small flip chart for story review, there is a set that includes a 3"x 5" spiral-bound flip chart. The cardstock flip chart includes a picture for each story from the DVD along with the story. The reverse of the page has just the picture, so children can retell the story. There is also a fact review page at the end of part one and part two.

This is a product with no student boundaries - use it for the very young, for remedial work, or for students with learning disadvantages. It is non-consumable, so great for multiple students. Have some fun and work on those harder-to-remember multiplication facts. ~ Donna

I chose this product after watching the free sample video. I am tutoring a student with learning disabilities and she is really great with visuals and stories, so I think this will really help her. (I already taught her a few stories from the sample video!) Also, I am going to be teaching ESOL, so all the visuals and stories in Times Tales will really help my students learn math and vocabulary. I'm looking forward to using this product!!

Awesome product. I purchased it a long time ago to help my daughter. I gave it to another mom to help her children with multiplication. I currently know some students who are significantly behind in math. I am purchasing this to help them. This is well worth purchasing. Funny. Back then, it was only a flipchart. Now it comes with a DVD!!!

This was recommended to be by another homeschooling mom. My son is a visual learner, so I think it will help him learn his multiplication tables more easily. My other children will benefit as well, but I bought this with him in mind. He's only six years old right now, but by next school year multiplication will be introduced.

Is this DVD in a UK format that will play on a UK DVD?
A shopper on Jan 25, 2019
BEST ANSWER: Awesome! My daughter learned multiplication in a few days. At first, I would have to just say to her, "Remember the story, " whenever she got stumped on a problem. At some point, she didn't need reminding any more. This is a great "Right-Brained" learning product. Right-brained learners cannot just memorize math facts. I highly recommend this product.
Is the times tales dvd with the flip chart the new animated version?
A shopper on Jan 16, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Yes, I believe so. The copyright is 2015 and on the DVD it says "Times Tale DVD Animated Edition." My son, a 5 grader, watched the first Part 1, and thoroughly enjoyed it. He loves a good story and the math tales gave him a reason to remember otherwise boring math facts. The flip book is good reinforcement. Highly Recommend!

Possibly Confuses Mathematical Understanding
This was an impulse buy. After looking into the program more closely I have some concerns. It does not teach true mathematical thinking or understanding. By the time kids would learn the new symbols of the program, they could just has easily have worked on understanding what the numbers really do when they are multiplied. Plus the way the answers are presented could cause further confusion. For example the story teaches that 6 (6th grade class) times 3 (butterflies represent 3), released at 1 o’clock 8 butterflies. This is supposed to help kids learn 6 x 3 = 18. Even as a mnemonic it’s weak because 1 and 8 make 9, not 18. Much more simple to think 6 doubled and then 6 more make 18, or simply 6 groups of 3 make 18. I will not be using this program with my 4th graders who already have a solid understanding of our math system as a base 10 system with a subsystem of 5.

I wish I had this with my older children! It worked beautifully for my 3rd grader! It would be helpful if there were more information with the product telling us how to use it. I hope they will make one for division!
