Speedy Spanish Book 1
Focusing on conversational Spanish, Speedy Spanish emphasizes words, phrases, and sentences prior to introducing grammar. This is a wonderful way to encourage elementary to middle school students to converse with neighbors or classmates whose primary language is Spanish, or use it to lay a foundation for upper-level foreign language studies!
Currently, there are two levels (years) available. Level 1* teaches 500 vocabulary words including numbers 1-10, months of the year, seasons, foods, and other everyday words. Level 2*, reviews Level 1 vocabulary before teaching 500 additional vocabulary words covering foods, body parts or common health concerns, and other words typically used in conversation. Integral to both levels are memorization of Bible verses and songs in Spanish, as well as traditional church expressions or references.
Speedy Spanish is now printed by Christian Light Education. Level 1 has been updated (2023), and course components include student Workbooks A and B, Audio Files (purchased on a USB drive), Vocabulary Word Card Packet, and a Teacher’s Guide.
Each Workbook provides 30 lessons plus reviews & tests after every 5 lessons (total of 36 lessons). You will complete A and B in one school year. Instructions are written to the student and include a suggested 5-day schedule: Monday (Part 1) emphasizes vocabulary. Tuesday (Part 2) involves sentence practice. Students read and listen to practice sentences in Spanish. Wednesday (Part 3) has matching exercises for Spanish words and sentences with their English translations. Thursday (Part 4) includes memorization of Bible verses and songs in Spanish. Bible Word Match activities are also included to enrich vocabulary. Friday (Part 5) is a review day, where students play a vocabulary flash card game using the included flashcards. No answers are included. The Student Books are consumable and non-reproducible.
Vocabulary Word Card Packet (aka Flash Cards) go with Spanish 1. Cards have Spanish on the front and English on the back. The cards are used to review vocabulary words. You will have to cut them apart before using.
Level 1 requires Audio Files that come on a USB drive. It includes the pronunciation model for the student to follow via words, phrases, memory verses, and songs. There are no answers here. You will need the teacher guide for answers.
The now required Teacher’s Guide includes reduced student pages with answers filled in, extra practice sentences, explanations and additional activities.
*Spanish 1 has been revised and the components are reflected in the description. Spanish 2 is still in the older version with audio CDs.
