An interesting idea – grade level vocabulary tests that will work with any vocab instruction you choose to use. One way to assess a student’s vocabulary is to read an essay they have written. This option is faster and more objective for you, the teacher/parent, to know where to focus your instructional efforts going forward. A page or 2 of instruction (with practice) is followed by a task (the assessment of understanding part). They are short and sweet (i.e. painless!) so kids won’t mind. The words are grouped around a common root (Greek and Latin are used). Some of these include: bio, chron, dict, graph, port, rupt, and therm. Answers are in the back. Reproducible for single classroom/family use only. Aligns to current standards.128 pgs, pb. ~ Sara
